amp fried and took the sub with it, ???

I helped a friend hook up an amp in his truck. It worked fine for 10 minutes, and then sent dc to the sub along with the music. I didn't know until the sub fried. the amp is a Memphis P200.2 bridged to a DCON 15" S4. Both were in his last car before the car died, (he had the sub installed for about 10 days!)

shouldn't the amp have gone into protect? it never did.

what could cause this to happen? I double checked the install, and it was working fine when he turned it on. He didn't even turn it up. Was it just the amps time?

I'm just trying to figure out if this can be prevented in the future.

Buy a better quality amp? Fultron was kind of low end junk in the mid 90's and changing the name didn't really change that. Some of their woofers are pretty good, but I never liked their amps.

You were clipping the amp so it got annoyed and depressed. So your amp took the life of the innocent sub and then commited *******. rip poor subwoofer

How about just not breaking the amp? There is no amp so junky that it will just blow without any user error and destroy other things right along with it. Also, a quick burst of energy won't blow a sub. For that brief instant they can take WELL over rated. Several times rated in fact. So you were clipping the crap out of it for a long period of time and yes, I imagine you have clipped the crap out of every amp you own. I'm not trying to insult you, but most people think clipping = loud. I've seen it time and time again.
