I just bought an Image Dynamics ctx65cs component system and am stuck deciding between two sundown amps. I know a lot of people run this set around 150 watts rms but would 200watts rms per side be too much? im not trying to push them too hard. If i go with the sundown sax125.2 my options are either 125x2rms which seems a little too low or 200x2 rms which seems a little high. if i get the 50.4 i could bridge it and get 160x2 rms which sounds pretty good. What do you guys think?

at this point i feel so lost on what amp to get. ive been researching all day and still cant decide what to get. i went on image dynamics forums and asked about the amps and they said it didnt matter if i had 125w x2, 150w x2, or 160w x2 that they would all sound the same. i left out an important peice of imformation that my car was a convertible so they reccomended a higher wattage like maybe 200x2. so now im looking for something that can do 200x2 at 4 ohm stereo. i found a cheap mbquart dsc450 discus amp for like 100 bucks on woofers ect that does this but im not sure if its stereo and the amp i so cheap i wonder if its any good. i also looked at the jl 300.2 slash amp which is rated at 150x2, but someone told me they can really do 170-200x2 dont know if its true.

The DSC450 will do rated. Running it bridged will give 200w x 2, but i can pretty much guarantee you that yous till won't hear a difference with anything you've listed thus far lol. Just go with what fits your budget and space constraints the best. You could even go with the SAX-100.4D or Crescendo 1000C4, or one of MB Quarts new 4-channel offerings, then run the comps off channels 1 and 2, and a sub off of channels 3 and 4 bridged, or go fully active with a 4 should you ever get to that point.

200x2 wont be louder than 125x2? i just want the speakers to be loud with the top up and down. i am open to any amps that will give me loud volume with good sq. if i can do that with a 100 dollar amp then ill get it. i was partial to sundown because i hear so much good stuff about them and planned on getting a saz1500d for subs and wanted matching amps.

op, the 125.2 is a very strong amp! and a true 125 watts per ch is a very loud. especially when the speakers are installed correctly.

If I were you I wouldn't get to cought up in the I need more until you actually see what 250w of mids and highs really sounds like.

I will tell you this. I have presently about 90 w/ch going to my mids and highs, and they keep up well with the Stetsom 2k5. I am gonna move up to a sax 125.2 soon, and don't see needing any more than that. And that is with 2500 solid watts of sub power. Just an example.
