Ok so this is my first time installing my own system but i hit a snag. My amp is a BOSS AUDIO PV3700 Phantom 3700 Watt, 5 Channel amp and it does not power on. I checked the fuse under the hood, fuses on the amp itself as well as ground to remote, and power to ground with a DVM. I get 12v from ground to remote but no voltage from power to ground although I get 12v from the power wire when it is not connected to the amp. I'm assuming my amp is defective but I'm looking for any insight before I send it back. Thanks in advance, Tray.

Ground to remote?

Sounds a bit confusing. Check that the remote wire is connected to HU then to amp. You didn't mention any RCA's. Got those/any hooked up?

Ground to chassis

power wire to battery, with fuse in between

remote to HU remote turn on, usually blue/white stripe

I'm sorry if my initial post wasn't clear. When I said ground to remote that's what I probed with my DVM. The ground wire is attached to bare metal I sanded with a Dremel. The remote wire is attached to a blue wire from the HU that supplies power when the ignition is turned on and has no power when the ignition is turned off. It's labeled remote on one side and p. Cont on the other side. I'm getting close to 12v from the remote wire at the amp connection when I ground my DVM lead on the chassis and at the ground connection on a the amp so assume that's good? The power cable of course goes to the negative battery terminal with an inline fuse. I get 12v from the power wire until I connect it to the amp then I get no voltage.

I assume my ground connection is good because I get a tone from my meter when I check continuity from remote wire connected at it's terminal on amp to the ground wire connected at the amp and from the ground location on my chassis. I'm starting to think my amp is doa but I don't have much experience with amps anymore since it's been over 10 years since I've had beat in a vehicle.

Yes it's the negative, black side. Is it supposed to be on the positive?

I chose the boss because it was the only 5 channel amp I could find under $200. I initially planned to power all of my speakers on it but after playing around with processing on the HU I got my vehicle's stock amp to produce some good tunes from the door speakers and tweets. I'm still returning the boss amp even if it's good for something else.

Lol, I see. I hooked everything back up and there is power lol. I know it was a rookie mistake, but hey it's cool, and thanks for the help.

I work wknds so I'm not on as much during the week.

There's PLENTY of youtube vids, write ups, etc as far as how to hook up an amp, no matter how big, what brand, how many ch it has, etc. If bought brand new, should show how to hook it up. Same with any other audio equipment.

I might add to that most car audio mfgrs label their amps differently, meaning one amp might have batt+ as their power output while the ground will have a ground symbol above it. Others might have Grnd, or batt as well without the "+" symbol. No matter what, it's all the same. Rem as remote for turn on from HU.

OP, if your unsure and doing it 1st time, I would advise looking into searching 1st before attempting to hooking it up 1st time again before you ruin, blow an amp or something. But hey, it's your $$, not mine or anybody else's. This goes with new people too. There's plenty of us around that have the experience and know how, hands on, that know this stuff like the back of our hand. When in doubt, ask.
