Amp distortion or Sub distortion?

how can you tell between amp distortion or the sub distorting? Like if I am hearing distortion from my subs how do I know if the sub is disorting or is the amp clipping and sending distorted power to the sub??? Is there a way to know for sure???

No way to tell without an o-scope. If it's distorting, regardless of the source, that's a sign to turn it down. Either the amp or the sub is at its limit.
