my guess is that op has it running at too low of an ohm load

Either too low of an ohm load or he's clipping and it's eventually getting too hot and going into protect.

Could be the remote wire signal voltage. My remote wire signal from my hu wasn't strong enough for one of my concept amps a few years ago so I had to put a relay on it to keep the amp from cutting off and on
