Amp cooling

ok well i will give you a run down i had to do the big three upgrade because of voltage drops and amp over heating...... well i did.... i put 2 gauge wire for my big 3 and i am running a 8 gauge power wire to the amp( upgrading wehn i get money) and a 2 gauge ground from the amp, it fixed my voltage problem lower it goes is 12.3....... the heating problem is still there!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif i have the speakers wired up right... so i am thinking of putting pc fans on the fins of the amp so my qurestion is where exactly do i postion the fans? should they be brigging air into the fins (blowing in) or blowing air out of the fins( blowing out) ? open to any other suggestions let me know thank you!!!!!!!

i recommend using bigger power wire at least 4 ga.

where your amp is mounted is important for cooling. maybe a pic of it would help. the best way to do this would be to make an amp rack. your amp will go inside the rack and you put a fan on either side, push or pull it doesnt really matter. the best way would be 2 fans, one on each side, working as a push, pull. inside the amp rack all the air that moved through the fan will go across the amp fins. doing it any other way is just kind of... janky. i have 2 amp racks in my car and my amps dont even get hot anymore. i think i have a link in my sig if you want to look at what im talking about. bcae1.com has some good info on amp racks.

Also what did you set your gain at? And how? You sure your not clipping the hell out of that amp and that's why it's heating up?

well my gain is about 3/4 up not all the way and i hear no distortion so i think i am good in that ( i think)

to be safe bro I would get a dmm and double check your gain. just better that way. it could be the end of your amp.

3/4 of the way up means nothing...depending on what HU you have, 1/4 could be clipping. You need to do some learning.

well yes i know that but what should the multimeter read? ac or dc?

you have to do some math to figure out what voltage it should read and you will need a test tone to do it right. and it will be in AC.
