Amp class Question for SQ

I thought about an intro and decided aginst it to make for less reading. I am doing a SQ install in the Nismo 350z and want to know some opinions on amps.

Fist being would you use a class A/B sub amp or a class D? Basically will I be able to hear or tell a difference between a class AB and a class D?

Second question I need some options on amps. So I am in need of a solid SQ sub amp to push some Image Dynamics 10 or 12 inch subs (2). What route would you go(meaning amp)?

Chris

I don't think that most folks would be able to

blind test pick an A/B full range from the latest

gen class D's by alpine (pdx) or JL.

Now I don't know who else is doing full range class D,

maybe they ****.

Not if those amps are confounded by experiment, they won't.

If you claim to hear topology differences, you have bigger fish to fry than car audio. Your ears should be used to hear the faint echoing of extraterrestrial life from the next galaxy.

Buying amps based on their so called "SQ' is like buying a new bike based on how the tires sound. If you REALLY think it's that important, get your CC ready because their are PLENTY of manufacturers that sell these "SQ" amps and there are PLENTY of dudes on this forum that can tell you where to get them.

No that I will disagree with . In a true HIGHLY tuned set up running phenominal gear there IS a differnce. Now you tell me you wont be able to tell the difference between say a Power Accoustic and my Zapco 9.0 with the same power in a SQ setup. You bring the amp and I will put up the Zapco against everything all day long. I may be changing over to a class a/b 6.0 or two in my set up because there is a difference. For an SPL setup then you might not notice a difference. Look out fellas, the new Zapco SPL amps have arrived and I think you will see a big ass can of whoop ass being opened. Zapco dominates in SQ and now they are in the SPL arena and trust me they have folded their fists for perfection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

When it comes to running subs, like your original

question asked, it really does not matter between

class A/B and class D.

What matters is that the amp puts the power down

over long periods without overheating or blowing internal

components.

If your going with two ID series 12's or 10's, I would look

into the Sundown SAE-1000d.

There is a difference between A/B and D but when your using Class D as a sub amp it doesnt really matter. Thats why most mono amps are class D
It's even more evident with a sub. Class D amps on subs(for the most part)sound sloppy/lose.

An AB class amp with a high damping factor will give a well controlled tight bass.

I've done a lot of comparing between Class D & AB, and thats what I can hear.

You will need good quality HU and Sub, but the SQ difference is there.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

So which two sub amps where you doing a comparison

with using the exact same sub's setup in the same car

as a reference point?

this seems to come up at least once a month. The real problem is, the distortion and other non-linearities in even great speakers are an order of magnitude greater than amps ...... so you won't ever hear it. If you think car audio has "snake oil" salesmen, you should check out the high end home audio market. They did an ABX test where they pitted very expensive wires against coat hangars wired up as speaker wires - the golden ears could not pick out the coat hangars at any better rate than random guessing. Gotta laugh .......
