amp acting werid

nah. 11.8 is okay.
let's eliminate the speaker

i'd re-run that speaker wire. to check, disconnect the speaker wire from the amp and turn the volume up to see if you get CUR

then connect the speaker wire and not the sub and turn the volume up, look for same.

then re-connect the sub and turn the volume up. see if the issue is the sub or the wire.

I couldnt wait so took a few hour off early and came to my brothers house and....started troubleshooting on my car....

first thing i did was... redid my ground wire in the back... I grounded it along with all the backlights that BMW grounded to...I grounded to the same screw....this way I know the ground is good...

next thing I did was unhook my sub.... and took out my DMM and test the output terminals to my sub...and the problem is my gains was set way too high... it was set to 42volts, so I lowered it to 32volts.... for my setup and amp my gains should be set to 34.4 or something like that... according to the chart that I got from the website here....

next thing I also did was check all wires for loose strands that could be causing the short.... and i found that all wires looked clean and good

next thing I tested out my DC on the amp with my DMM and voltage was good.. i was getting 13.7 range so I know my power is good.

next .... I connected my sub back and taped the ends with eletrical tape just incase... and then clean up the wires and cable tie them up neatly... and finally fired up the car...

and turned on music and playing pounding beats.... and everything is fine.... it stayed on fine...

thanks everyone for chippping in and giving me troubleshooting steps.....

much appreciated...... I learned alot from this..... this hobby seems fun ^^....

I have a JL audio amp im wondering now if I had the gains set too high... so thats why it goes in and out... I will definately use these troubleshooting steps I learn today to figure out if my JL 500/1 really have problems or its just stupid me set the gains too high....I actually opend up the JL 500/1 and it looks sooooo new i mean nothing looks burnt or anything.... so...

Let us know if you get feedback when you hit your brakes or turn on your headlights.
very good news.... no feedback when hitting brakes or turn signals... and I dont hear my engine whine noise either... which i was getting when I had grounded it some other place.. but ..the place where i grounded with all the lights in the back.. works great!!!... also lights dont dimmm either when hitting hard beats......this is awesome...thanks to this site..I finally fixed all the problems I had previously!!!......
