ok i will have an sax-100.4, alpine type r components, and a cda-9885. now my question is i know for certain i can do active with my amp but not sure if my headunit will be capable of altering the active settings cuz i dont know how to actually run active just yet. do you do all the settings off the amp or do you need settings on the deck aswell? also are my type r components good enough to go active cuz i dont know if there are only certain speakers that can go active just asking to make sure what i need to run my system full active, thx!

sure

with an external processor

how many RCA out's (on your headunit) do you have for your speakers (don't include subwoofer)?

Does your headunit have a function for controlling crossover points for each channel (front right, front left, etc)?

Any component set can be made to go active, quality has nothing to do with it.

i believe it has 2 rca's out but i could be mistaken heres a link to my deck http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-ALPINE-CDA-9885-IN-DASH-CAR-CD-MP3-IPOD-HD-PLAYER_W0QQitemZ250277810144QQihZ015QQcategoryZ39750QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

now my question would be wether to get a new hu with active xover/eq already built in or just keep my hu and grab an external processor, what are the pro's can con's to each and which would be a better route to go?

If you want to go active with a head unit the easiest way is with a 9887. With that unit you will also get more eq and control of the crossovers at your fingers while going with a external crossover its usually out of sight and harder to tune front the front seat. Also the 9887 has the imprint if thats something you might use. I personally use an active head unit so I can make changes on the fly.

if i was told correctly though, all that extra stuff for doing a good active setup witha 9887 costs extra....as opposed to the pioneer 800prs which comes with everything.

Nope not extra. Only thing that cost extra is the Imprint and you dont need that if you can tune manually. The 800prs does have more Eq and thats about it.

ok well im wanting some good eqing but not top of the line with like 100bands of eq just enough to fine-tune within a reasonable amount of time not something thatll take 100s of hours to grasp potential from so does the 9887 have that or is its eq not very versatile at all and should get the 800prs instead? because i am also wanting superfast ipod controls as it is my main source or music but if its eq is not even up to par with some basic ones i would rather get the 800 but is the 9887's eq good enough for the average joe do cuz thats what im looking for and i think the 800prs has too much eq possibilities which i wouldnt be able to tap into without the appropiate knowledge

Thats easy get the 9887. The eq is 5 band parametric or 7 band graphic. The 800 has a 16 band graphic. The 9887 has full speed Ipod and the 800 needs an adapter and its not full speed at all.
