2002 altima. I have one of these that takes up most of my trunk.

And 1500 + watts going to the 15 inch RE XXX.

Should sound great

It doesnt

It rattles, rear deck makes fart sounds, it muffles the sound of the sub too i think. Ive tried with seats up, seats down. Ive deadened the top and bottom of the rear deck. Ive put rubber materieal between the rear deck light and the rear winshield to prevent them from vibrating against eachother. ive used the same kind of rubber material to push the rear deck down by wedging it between the deck and winshield. Deadened under the rear seats, deadend the entire trunk including the lid, deadened the license plate & put foamy material behind it to stop it from moving & rattling altogether. Ive tightened the license plate housing by filling it with foamy materials and drilling into it to make it tight.

Ive searched and searched and searched and searched on this forum but no answers.

How can i get rid of the rear deck rattle.

Is the box too big and its stopping proper sound flow into the cabin.

Do i need a smaller box?

Do i need a smaller sub and smaller box, maybe 2 10's sealed or something?

Can i just take that rear deck matt off and replace it with something else? Any suggestions for doing something like that. Ive already spent so much time on it, i dont mind spending a little more.

dudeeeee, i have the same exact problem. i got a 15 XXX in my honda. I look back and i see my rear deck getting atleast 2 inches of excursion! And i dynamated EVERYTHING! and still rattles. Makes me want an SUV

I was just thinking of getting ride of that 15 and the gigantic 4cube box and getting 2 12's becasue of this problem.
Do you think a smalle box that would allow better flow into the cabin with a seat down would help much? I hate to waste any more money on another box thats gonna be hard to sell

Got a 2000 Alty with 2 15's in the trunk. Did 3 layers of deadener on top of rear shelf and 2 underneath, plus 2 layers on the underside of the cover. Also put some foam underneath it. NO rattles anymore....

So get busy and deaden the crap out of it. The HD Peel & Seal works fine for the rear deck and is much cheaper when doing multiple layers.

What is HD peel & seal?

i did about 1.5 layers on top and on bottom. I didnt think to apply deadener to the deck matt tho. I guess about 20 sq ft more should be plenty. But now something inside the seat belt housing has major rattles. When i bang on it slightly, it sounds like im shaking a piggy bank. It goes away when i pull the seatbelt all the way out and make it tight. But theres no way to get at it without taking alot of shit apart.

Also, anyone have any ideas for tightening the trunk lid?

when you displace as much air as those do ur gonan have vibrations and rattles...gotta find them and stuff shit in where u can to stop the ratteling......

Same thing happens with my rear deck on my 2000 grand amp. I stick my huge cd case in the middle and i wedge it between the window and rear deck and for the most part it stops my rear deck from jumping up and down. Also stopped most of the rattling and that fart sound it makes when the rear deck jumps.

Home Depot...Peel & Seal....usually in the roofing or gutter section. Do a search on here as many have used it. Some have had problems on vertical surfaces, but it's fine for horizontal and plenty cheap, so you can do MANY layers.

And YES deaden the crap out of the rear deck cover also, and put some foam padding or whatever in there, so when you pop it back into place it's TIGHT.

Same with your seatbelt housings, take em apart and deaden them or whatever. Nobody said it would be easy, but it'll be worth it when the rattles are gone.

You could also run a few self tapping screws through the rear deck cover. The make ones with a built in washer type head. If your bass is that serious you have to take extreme measures....

On top of all the stuff mentioned before, when you re-assemble, coat all of your screws in the red loctite thread locker, and use lock washers. Helps to keep the screws from backing out. Provided your rear deck has screws in it. If not, add some.

Good stuff guys, im gonna try most or all of that stuff. If it doesnt work, im gonna take out the rear deck speakers and just go with a great front stage with midbass oriented components & some horns mounted under the dash. Maybe 2 or 4 extra tweeters mounted by the driver seat belt housing too. All this work, im gonna have to keep this car for a few more years at least to get some use out of it.

Thanks again for all the ideas
