Hey i am setting up my first system, before i even got it in or tried to my alternator went out. perfect time to get a new one and to make sure i get one that can run what i want to put in.

what size should i get, i drive a honda civic cx 1996 1.6l with a 12v battery. my amp is 1000w and the sup is peak rated to 1200w i have a sony xplod 12" and box.

any help would be great thank you

First off, if you put a true 1000watts rms to a Sony Xplode it will, well...explode. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Honestly, unless you plan on running more power than 1000 watts (RMS) you should be fine with a stock alt and the big 3 upgrade. Depends on the size of your stock alt though. May need to upgrade your stock battery at the most.

ok so as far as the sub goes i should set it to the 500 w setting and not bridge it to the full 1000 and explain the big 3 upgrade... looking at alternators here are some specs; 12volts, 70 amps

Thank you

What model amp and subwoofer are you running? What voicecoil configuration is the sub? (dual 4, single 4 etc) A 70 amp alt is pretty small...but I wouldnt be willing to pay more for an alternator than my equipment is worth. thats just my honest opinion.

With a single 4ohm voice coil sub, the most you can get out of that amp is 250 watts. Which would probably be about right for that sub. Just run the positive and negative from one channel to the sub. You wont need to upgrade alts for that.. But I'd upgrade the sub if I were you! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

haha thanks, but im low on cash and all i want is some bass not enough that the block down the road can feel it xP but the 70W alt will be able to run it with no damage to the vehicle?

That 70amps, but yes you will be fine running that power. I suggest you read how to properly set your gain using a DMM so you dont blow the sub immediately. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

ok so how should i wire up my sub to make sure nothing breaks
Positive on one channel of the amp to the positive of the sub. Negative of the same channel to the negative of the sub. Set your gains with a DMM. (instructions can be found all over the net including on this site) Simple as that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
