Alternator Really not an HO?

stock belt? most likely the alternator came with an undersized pulley to get it spin faster.

my best guess is that the belt is too long and isnt creating enough tension on the smaller pulley. if your voltage sits that low the alternator isnt charging shit cause its not spinning, at the speed it should be spinning. try a shorter belt. if the alternator is working properly, what your describing is to a T, of what happens with a slipping belt with an HO alternator. peace

I called DBELECTRICAL and they are sending me out another alt asap. I spoke with one of the tech's, who was very apologetic and understanding of what was going on. With my exact year model car they had had a few problems with our custom alternators. I will let you all know how everything goes once I get the new alt and hook it up.

So, I get the new alternator today (2nd one), and per Ron's suggestion, I buy a new shorter belt. This shorter belt was a pain in the *** to get in, took me probably well over an hour just to get the belt around the alternator pulley. I hook everything up like normal, and hope for the best. I let me car run for about 15 minutes and decide to go and test it out. Well, guess what, I am still having the same **** problem. The alternator drops well below 12.4v while I am idle, and this is with no music playing. I turn on my sounds, and the voltage drops below 11.6. I am absolutely fed up with this. I have spent so much time trying to troubleshoot this and haven't come up with any solution besides these alt just aren't what there supposed to be. The alt charges fine while I am driving, but idle voltage is nominal. Lights dim like crazy inside and out. I will be going tomorrow to a different place to get my batteries tested. If they tell me that my batteries are fine, I will be looking to return DBELECTRICAL their alternator for a refund.

sounds like a internal regulator problem or your cars computer is shutting down the regulator, do you have all the factory plugs connected to the alternator if so you may need another internal regulator.

I have everything plugged up as normal. Their were two wires hooked up to the alt, the POS and the one that has like a 8pin connection. Both were hooked up just as the stock one was.

sounds like an internal regulator problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif In my car it does the same thing as yours does but the cars computer shuts down the internal regulator when things are charged to save on gas, I start the car reads 14.4volts 10 min of idling 12.9volts, the other thing you could do is ask for an external regulator so you can set it up where you want it, but you may need to send that alternator back in so they can remove the internal regulator //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

regulator problem inside the alt or the ECU? Also, my voltage is fine in park (No music), but once I shift to drive, that's when everything turns sour.

for the internal regulator inside the alternator, youll have to ask whoever built it for you and ask for the external regulator, some vehicles ecu shut of the internal regulator to save on gas, you can tell that from the stock alternator if it does the same thing the ecu is shutting down the internal regulator until it needs to turn it back on, that would tell you if the ho alternator is working properly. Id suggest gettin a refund and contacting Dom Iraggi and get an external regulator well worth the extra $

At this point, I am about ready to say "F" this. I have swapped out this alternator twice now from them, and I do not look forward to doing it again.

lol contact dom iraggi he'll set you up, just get an external regulator than you can jump it to 15 volts or higher @ idle //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

That's no problem, but will his alt's only put out 105a at idle also. If they do, I don't wanna be bothered with this anymore.
