Hey guys im curious what you guys are getting for volts on your batteries? this is for the guys with the stock alts no HO alts allowed. i kinda think mine is dying but really slow so i wanna know what you guys are pulling for volts??? im gonna go check min right now thanks guys

i usually get 14.X volts, during comps itll get to like 13.4 w/ engine on, no audio
well your sitting alot better than i am here are my stats compared to my rents cars and my fiance's

My car: 99 Grand Am GT: No audio: 13.8 Radio On & AC 12.5

Moms Car: 99 Grand Prix GT: No audio 13.8 Radio On and AC 13.7/8

Dads Pick up: Ford F 150: No audio 14.0 Radio On and AC 14.4

Fiances Alareo 03 Alero 4 Cylinder: No Audio 14.0 Radio On and AC 13.9

Non of the cars have any sorta amplifier in them including mine.

So what do you guys think is the deal the alternator or the Battery????

with the stock Alt on my i was sitting at 13.6 with no audio. With the subs wanging i was having voltage drops down to 10.3:( i just got a red top up front and a 120a alt(v.the stock 90a) and iam putting a yellow top in the trunk. i havnt measured yet but i hope ill fix the problem

i know that much i was running with a yellow in the trunk
ps go measure it then lol //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

So you have stock stereo? I would check all connections and recheck voltage at the back of the alt if you can. Car is 7 years old, could be corosion causing the voltage drop. Are the connections on the battery clean (no white or green powder?)

yea i agree, my stock alt i was at 14.4, wt the radio on, not blasting but on.

It might be idling low, have someone press on the gas a little while u check the readings. U can always adjust ur idle screw.

no i dont have a stock stereo i have a new HU and the whole other crap subs amps and what have you. i know there is no corrision at all i do pay more attention that that. You saying my car is 7 years old does bring up a question though could the battery be bad and causing this or do you think this is alt problem???

thats a thought. i also think i might try switching the stock battery with my optima thats not being in use at the moment

You could have one of the following

Weak Battery

Bad factory Cables

Weak Alternator

The factory cables can corrode underneath the jacket where it is not visable. That is why I suggested to check voltage at the back of the Alt to see if there is a drop from what you have at the battery and what the Alt is putting out. The higher the amperage against higher resistance would cause the drop to be more severe under load then at idle.

What does the battery sit at with the car off? Measure after the car has ran around town- wait about 30 minutes after turning car off to measure so the voltage can settle.
