Alternator or NOT?

Honestly, it takes power to make power. It sounds as if you really need to get a bigger alt under your hood.

Just doing a back of the envelope calculation of 2K watts / 14.4v I come up with a current draw of 138 amps. Of course, that's assuming the amp is 100% efficient, which it isn't, but once you factor in how underrated that RF amp is, it gets us in the ballpark.

You might be able to get away with the big-3 and a 2nd battery although you'll still probably be starved for power... 50/50 call on this one.

Definitely ditch the cap though.

Which is why you hear stories all the time about guys with their 70A civic alts running 1500w w/o much trouble. Music at something less than full volume requires only a fraction of the P/V=I current

But if a person's looking to SLAM on the verge of clipping at ALL times with 2000w - yeah, it'll take a boatload of alternator current.
