Alternator or NOT?

My stock alt. is 105. I'll run 0 gauge wires and a 40 farad cap. powering kicker solox 18" with a fosgate t2000. Some say it will be fine and some say I'll need a higher output alt. From your experience, will I need a new Alt.?? Thanks

the reason you can't get a straight answer is because there isn't one.

Just get one anyway, if you decide to get something bigger in the future, you'll be ok and you wont have to worry about it.

It's hard to say. I have 1000 watts off a 70 amp alt now and get pretty severe dimming if I go to loud. I'll be getting a new HO alt in the near future.

Honestly, it takes power to make power. It sounds as if you really need to get a bigger alt under your hood.

Just doing a back of the envelope calculation of 2K watts / 14.4v I come up with a current draw of 138 amps. Of course, that's assuming the amp is 100% efficient, which it isn't, but once you factor in how underrated that RF amp is, it gets us in the ballpark.

You might be able to get away with the big-3 and a 2nd battery although you'll still probably be starved for power... 50/50 call on this one.

Definitely ditch the cap though.

Looks like a new alt. is in line for you if you plan on using those 2000w + from that amp...
