Alternator issues... Voltage that turns the alt on?

does anyone know what voltage the wire that turns the alt on on a 99 chevy silverado would have? its a 1 wire plug i would assume it would be 12 volt>? but testing says otherwise. i have a quad alt set up with my stock still on it and the 3 aftermarket ones are not charging
