Alternator for my amp

I have a stock 140 amp alternator.

I'm assuming it's going bad, as during heavy bass hits (Lights on) The voltage will go as low as 12.4 volts running. 12.7 above 1200 rpms

Lights off, 12.9-13.5

So that's considerably low and so heres my question.

Will a new STOCK alternator rated at 140 amps be enough for a "1600 Watt max" (800 Watt rms) or should I upgrade to 200amp alternator? DB Electrical - ALTERNATOR HIGH OUTPUT 200 Amp 4.6L SEVILLE 93 94 95 96 97 ELDORADO

Would a 200amp be a better investment in the long run (As in longer lasting and more reliable)

Wiring to 1/0 gauge would be including with buying the hire amp alternator.

Info about my system:

- 96 Cadillac Eldorado

- JVC KW-AV61BT Deck

- 4 Gauge power & ground

- Stock Bose 4" front and 6x9 rear

- 2 Pioneer 12" TS-W309D4

- Pioneer Amp GM-D8601

- Scosche 500k Cap

Double check your amp ground too. It has to be secure to bare metal. No way you should be having alt issues with 800 rms.

Alts probably dying down. Had the car for 3 years now and don't know when the last owner last replaced the alternator. With no music on the alternator goes down to 12.9 volts with lights on. No good.

But, I'll probably do big 3 + get a new battery. Optima red top?

I've heard too many optima horror stories, lol. My XS D3100 is awesome

You have enough alternator to easily run two of your amps.

Like DDtC said, the alternator you have is plenty for your amps. Get a solid battery or two and invest in good wiring. The big 3 would be good

Thanks guys. The voltage drops a lot... Big 3 + Stock alternator will suffice for this?

On my vehicle specifically the alternator is a real ***** to remove and install. Lots of labor. So I don't want to put a stock alt back in if my problems will come back within months time
