Alternator buying/help please

I looked up my alternator ampage and found it was 70. I am going to be running a 400watt 4channel for my speakers and a 1000watt mono amp for my sub. I don't think my stock at 70 will do. I just got a quote from ho for my civic and they want 650 bucks for a 170 amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif . Do higher output alternators run this high? If so thats a little out of my price range //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif My mechanic told me a high end battery will do nothing to help if it if my car is on, he said you could unplug your battery when the car is running and it still will run since all the power is from the alternator. Any help would be much appreciated on pricing, etc.

I'm looking into picking up and alt for my civic too. I know Dom is a great guy and everything and quoted me 380 for a 180 amp. Does anyone have any info on where I can pick up a cheaper one and still get the same performance/customer service?

Do you drive a civic? Because it seems that honda alternators just seem more expensive.

Yeah i thought $650 was a little bit high. I asked some guys at work and their mouths just dropped and one said just get a cap. I see a lot of people here say bad things about caps, and this guy runs 2 12'' sony explodes so i don't think i should go with his word. I'm wondering if i just do this "big 3" thing if that will just work. I'm pretty new at this, but that doesn't look to hard to do.

try going to your local shops... ive found that at my local shops alts are cheaper than online... a cap will only help keep the joice goin a little longer but not much.. a cap is good because it will help the amp pull the juice it needs quickly... but ur still gonna need the alt

I've got a similar power requirement on a new system. I've got a 105A alt. I'm planning on doing big three + batt.

I'm not to sure about new ebayers and with 100% positive. $129 bucks for a 160 amp alternator for honda seems odd from the quotes i been seeing.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Edit : Just noticed the "IMMEDIATE PAYMENT REQUIRED'' also. Something doesn't sound right.

they built mine, it's a newer style ford alternator, but it's bada$$ and never buy an HO alternator off ebay.

i know for a fact you can't get 100 amps out of a honda alternator.

just give nations a call tomorrow and tell ADAM you saw my post and he'll tell you your opions for your car, and give you quotes.

but on my CRX that ford alt worked perfect.

and it was about 1/2 of what every other website wanted.

How much did you pay for yours? You can pm me. I don't think i will need a 200amp, someone told me 160amp would do. They said it would probably run from $130-$170.
