Alternative sound barrier (poor man's MLV)

So I was thinking about alternatives to the MLV that you can buy because it is expensive and expensive to ship so what I came up with was a rubber door mat... I am planning on going and finding one that is nice and heavy and see how the weight compares with MLV sq ft to sq ft. Should have some results tomorrow. MLV is only part of the equation.

A proper sound barrier consists of a blocker (MLV) and an absorber (CCF).

Using one without the other will only give you marginal performance.

I understand that. I have the CCF portion taken care of. I'm just wondering if this could be used in place of the MLV so I can spend more money on other things

As long as you can get sufficient mass, most anything can act as a barrier. The ideal is going to be limp and non-elastic. The difficulty in finding a "poor man's" MLV is that MLV is already the "poor man's" lead. Thickness relative to mass is another consideration. Scrap conveyor belts are best ultra cheap option I've heard of.
