Alpine Type-X SWX-1242D

That speaker has a dual 4 ohm voice coil configuration. So if using only one of them it can either be a 2 ohm or an 8 ohm driver. If you use two of them you could achieve a final load of 1 ohm's to the amplifier. Being able to run daily at a given impedance is a function of the amplfier and not the speaker. If the voice coils on the speaker are wired properly then it has no effect on how long it can run, but the load presented to the amplifier depends solely on each particular model.

okay well the plan is to run 2 of them in a crx style box(which I already have). Sorry I didnt mention that before. I am planning on running them off of a orion 2500d so I know I can wire it to 1 ohm but I wasnt sure if the subwoofer could handle the abuse of 1 ohm as a daily. I am still looking at subs at the moment but these are an option.

.5 ohm or 8 ohm wont make a differnce on the abuse the sub can take. Depending on how the sub is wired will determine the amount of power the amp will put out. I have the same amp so for example if you get two type x subs that are dual 4 you can wire them to 1ohm or 4 ohms. At 1 ohm they will recieve roughly 1250rms each. At 4 ohms they will be seeing more around 500rms each. Hope that makes a little sense

no I definetley will wire them to 1 ohm. Just I see some woofers that are labeled in the specs that this speaker operates at 2 or 8 ohm or something along those lines. Can these get loud or should I just not waste my time with them? I would like to put them on a memphis 4kw at some point but we'll see.

With that power, yes there are a lot better options for u .

type x's are more of a sound quality subwoofer...if you want loud, save your money and buy the type r. Or you could shop around and see what else is out there but the type r is hard to beat for the money....not impossible.... but hard to beat

i wouldnt say that they are more of an sq driver as they are more geared having the ability to play in small sealed applications

^^ Im with them, the Type X Is Better Sealed For A SQ Setup..

SQ Cars need only to get 135dB or around that..

im sure that meny get louder but thats the Cap..

You can find a better sub siuted for what you need..

I was thinking possibly acouple Audiobahn Flame Q 12s and putting the 2500d to those. I got 1 12 to 138.6 in a slot port box. I didnt really have a budget at first but now I'd kinda like to stay at or under $500 for 2 12s since I will be buying a house at the end of october. So instead of quitting completley I will just start budgeting a bit and take things one step at a time. What do you guys think would be a good loud woofer on a $500 budget. This will be in the back of a cherokee in case I didnt mention that.

So very true. I had 2-12 X's with 2200 watts and could not get them to hit the way I wanted. I had them ported and then sealed, but they did lay down them lows and sounded good doing it too.

A couple weeks later I put my L7's back in. If you want spl the type X is the wrong choice. And they only come in 4ohm no 2 ohms available, or atleast back when I bought them they did'nt.
