Alpine Type S components ****in ****.

They are rated 50w rms and so is my amp.

Gains set correctly.

Lots of bass but the tweeter just does not get loud enuff and when it does it makes a crunching / crackling sound.

my jbl coaxials got muchhhhhhhhhhhh louder and didnt distort and the tweeter was like half the size/weight.. just not as much bass output..

wtf?

Well something is definatley wrong speakers from alpine can not be this shitty.

3/4 volume the tweeter crackles, crunches, breaks up

at that volume it is like 1/4 as loud as my old JBL coaxials.

Wtf could be wrong?

and now that they have distorted should I just get rid of them are they shot?

if a wire was backwards would it cause this?

if a wire was loose would it cause this?

sounds kinda like you have full range frequencies going to the tweets.
Yah thats what it *sounds* like...

but that doesnt sound like the problem...

The tweeters are connected to the supplied crossover..

the amp crossover is set to HP above 80

gains set correctly how?

iv hammered on some type s speakers. and they did fine.

As per the sticky.. Ok well maybe not correctly haha i'm no professional..

i would check all connections, crackling could be a loose wire somewhere.
Their is a butt crimp connect on the neg and pos wire from the amp to the crossover... but they seem very solid..

But I would think if a wire was loose or a bad connection it would distort at any volume?

tweeters will crackle when being pushed too hard, sounds like what you're doing. Amp sending a clipped signal perhaps.

Do those x-overs let you attenuate the tweeters: -6 -3 0 +3 or something like that?

Yes the crossover does have that option what is that for exactly?

I thought it was for if the tweeters were too loud so u could turn them down?

type s comps aren't high quality at all. i suggest the type r's are a differnt brand. how happy did you expect to be with $70 speakers
I expected them to be loud and not distort.

I think my problem is I set the gains with the volume too high.. They need to be reset with the volume at 25 out of 35
