^^^this. Type X's are impressive. Like a lot of subs they aren't worth what they want new. Kind of like the entire JL lineup.

The X is a good sub. If you want SQ with a bit of out its not a horrible price. You can get close to that SQ and louder for less though.

Get one of the new Type R's. Only $150 and the same power handling now. No point really in getting an X anymore until they upgrade it

If you want SQ with a good bit of output stick with the X. If you want to lose SQ and get more output the options are not limited. But its all box dependent. You can make most woofers sound good in the right box.

Oh yeah, I love the X. One of my fav subs that I have owned. I just wouldnt buy one now because the new R is right along there with it. You know that Alpine will be updating the new X VERY soon, so I would just wait. To me that is like buying a new car knowing that the new update for the same car is coming out the next year. I myself wouldn't do it, but OP, you won't be disappointed if you do get it

I dont think they have said anything yet, but with the R moving up into that class power wise they are going to have to. If not people that dont know the difference between SQ and SPL are going to buy the R for WAY less.

IMO, the difference between the X and R isn't significant enough to justify the difference in cost unless the X is going into the right enclosure, a very good amp, and going into a car that is not a trunk vehicle. Unless it is a trunk vehicle that you modify to fire into the cab I wouldn't get the X. Putting the X into a trunk isn't worth the extra money to me. When I owned it I had it in the back of an integra hatch and it was unbelievable.

If you are putting it into a hatch or SUV or truck then I would say go for it. But if it is going into a trunkwithout a great amp then the SQ upside to the X is diminished to the point that I wouldn't pay the extra money for it.
