Everyone here seems to be pretty happy with Alpine subs. The only thing I wonder is, I've seen the price. That can't be right? $100 for Type s? $110 for Type Rs? No ****?

If these things are as good as you guys claim, shouldn't they be at least $175 apiece or something?

I've been asking for new subs for Christmas, budgeted to a bit over $200 for a pair. Here's what I'm asking:

IF, I buy a pair of 12" Alpine Type R subs, put them in a solidly built box designed by one of the talented box designers on the forum, and attach it to my current PA amp, would YOU consider it a respectable setup?

Alpine Type R's are excellent subs, spending alot doesnt allows mean you are getting the best product. And try a local audio shop for a factory made prefabricated box, they are alot cheaper than having one custom built and are good quality and will serve your purpose just fine( Just throwing box in the back of your trunk)

Prefab? Cheaper? HAHAHA. You guys are nuts. I figure $15 to $20 towards JMac or Moe Lester to design one hell of a ported enclosure. I can build it like a frickin' boulder for $35 in materials. You're telling me that a cheap shitty 5/8 chipboard universally ported enclosure that's $35 is really worth saving $20?

My current enclosure I built myself. You see, the last enclosure was an Audio Craft, one of those quality factory made prefabricated enclosures. My cheap subs BLEW IT APART AT THE SEAMS. I ended up re-caulking it more than once. It was flaking off because it wasn't MDF. There were so many problems with that enclosure I don't know where to begin.

Not to diss inexperience, but seriously, just for fun, build your own box. It will be nearly $33 in materials at Lowes, 3/4 MDF for $19, 1.5" or 2" screws (Same price, I used 2") for $5, Silicon I caulk for $2.70 and liquid nails for $2. I bet you'd be so impressed by this new box, you wouldn't want to go back to your pre-fab. If you don't like it, well, spend a little more, carpet it, and sell it for $70 to $150, because that's what a custom enclosure is worth.

I will be looking into a pair of Type Rs in the near future.

Type R's are GREAT subs, ESPECIALLY for the price. Don't ever let the price of a product determine whether the product is good or not, thats ridiculous. And that person with the banner with all the black girls, man that one in the middle has an *** I would love to slap.
