let's not forget mb quart, polk, infinity,eclipse, and if you got money focal. just to name a few. on your list, i went for alpine. i've heard all except the phillips/vdo? who,what,where,when who da hell? honestly never heard of them,any good?

Phillips/VDO must be only on the Australian market. They are not as good quality as Alpine, but twice as cheap. Don't get me wrong, they still are really good. Here in Aus, they are the most popular brand of stereo.
