alpine optimum vented box size

has anyone tried the 1.3 c.f. box that alpine reccomends with the type r 12". it seems everyone is using much larger boxes, so i was wondering what this would sound like. size is a problem cause it's going in a ford ranger

I just looked at the specs and it says .75 - 1.75, I would aim for the larger box myself...
