Alpine HU info needed

Hello Everyone!

I need some help with an Alpine HU, and was pointed to this forum as being a great resource. I used to have an Alpine CDA-7875 in my Mark VIII before I sold it ( //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ) and I loved that deck. It was rock solid, never skipped, looked AWESOME, and put out the best sound.

Now, I will be looking for a new car, which will probably be some type of 5.0, and I would like to get another Alpine deck. The one thing I did not like about the 7875 was the brightness of the deck, even dimmed, so I am looking for a HU with a blackout feature, and I am seriously looking at an Alpine CDA-9833. Now, the varied specs I have aren't consistent, does this HU have a blackout display? And how does that work? Does it just black out the LCD or the buttons as well?

With my old Alpine deck, I built a head unit "cover" box out of thin plastic to pop over the display and black it out a night. But, everytime I wanted to change the song or volume, I would have to take it off, which was a pain. If the 9833 doesn't have a blackout display, can anyone suggest a mid price ($350) Alpine deck that does? I want the buttons to be blue, and I do not want that black and white dot matrix display on the new HUs, and I also want a 60x4 v-drive.

Thanks for the help! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

does it have to be an alpine?
LOL, yes is has has to be an Alpine! I find the way they look to be unbeatable, and my experience with them has never let me down, and they sound tremendous.

Edit: Also, I did a search, and someone said there was a moving display on the 9833? I know my old HU had levels that moved with the music on the left, what does the 9833 have? And what color backlighting are the controls, I would like them to be blue, but can you change them??

well ive never used an alpine so im not sure about the brightness of the screen and all that... but there are other brands just as good...check out a pioneer deh-80mp

im not sure about the 9835 but i know that my 9815 has this feature where I can hold the display button down for a couple of seconds and the screen would pretty much turn off until i click on a button. Im not sure if the lights on the buttons turn off , but i am sure that the screen does. In the manual it also says that this blackout feature thing aloows the deck to perform better.
