Alpine F1

II think I'm going to have to disagree with re-sell. Nearly every time I see this up on forums (used) they go quick. BUT, I will agree you're likely going to take quite a hit to the pocket. However, I know Flip is a finance guy so if we put this in percentage I believe your depreciation would be roughly the same as the w200/h701 combo. I'll let him run the numbers, lol. I don't think you'll be re-selling this kit once you get it though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Sounds like an interesting project...

Finding resale values on the F#1 may be a bit difficult...but it does sound like fun. I can't view ECA at work...but I'll think of something.

^ I'll try to help you myself.

For starters I just saw a set on hybrid forums go for $2000 in 4 days.

*for the dvi & h990 set. h990 was practically brand new*

Although I dunno if it's really a good thing to consider resale value when buying car audio equipment. I don't consider resale value as much as I do liquidity.
I don't necessarily always consider, but it does always play a role.

I do my best to keep parts pristine so that when I upgrade later I can sell them off without too much of a hit. I think nearly everyone on DIY does this. So, in a way, it definitely plays a role.

But depreciation doesn't work that way.

When tuckin' sells them, he will be the second owener...and thus depreciation % is different. Depreciation isn't straightline. It also depends on the seller. The fact that he got them from Don actually reduces the hit he would take if he got it from me.

That is what makes it hard to calculate...I have to consider

1) The original dealer

2) Authorized / non-authorized

3) The seller's feedback

4) How many people actually owned the unit...

Turns into quite a complex polynomial regresssion...and the more I think about it, the more subjective it would be. I still believe the lower alpine unit has more liquidity than the f#1

^ You confuse me. I hate you. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

His case would actually be more beneficial since his depreciation is less than Don's. I agree. In that case it might behoove him to buy it, depending on his circumstances. But, I really don't think we should get into that here. I'm not at all trying to argue with you. Just want to make that clear. You obviously know WAY more about finance than I do. Do my taxes? haha

To the OP. Did you see this?

lol, I'd rather now know...

So, I take it you're selling off your set to go with the factory setup in the SS?
You'd rather noW know or noT know? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I am, although the contemplatiion of selling the H900 or keeping the current F1 stuff has come up. Well you saw the other post...

Still take rarity and exclusivity into consideration. DVI is no longer made or available. Think Black Denons here .. superb HU, but the rarity of it makes the bottom line higher. 205/701s can be found anywhere and will continue for quite sometime.

Makes me wonder .. why am I selling this again? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

This makes me think on it a little more.

I think DIYMA presents a type of enigma.

Logically, rare/exclusive items have very little liquidity. Think about PPI Art series. The only people that really want them are people who are specifically looking for them or have excess cash laying around in case something like that pops up.

The market for Black Denons, and other 'old school SQ' and 'high end SQ' units is quite small...but yet, as you mentioned, the gear moves pretty fast; meaning the products are quite liquid.

However, in general take the Sundown SAZ-1500 (not picking on Jacob in any way here)...there are hundreds of these amps floating around, they get good reviews, and such...yet people take massive hits. Why would people be taking such hits on "general" products in which there is a stable level of demand.

Perhaps, it is supply has greater influence that demand. Typically, demand as a greater impact on the function than supply. And you can use Granger Causality to prove this....

But why does supply, in this instance, have a greater influence on price?

Sorry for the rambling, it will take a little bit of thought to wrap my head around this one, but I assume someone with experience can give me some insight into why this exists.
