Alpine Champion vs Type R. Plus box design question

Hey guys. So I've been wanting to do my car audio setup for a while. I've done a few systems and I've always went for the midrange of the price ranges.

Seeing as the boxing day sales are crazy I decided to go ahead and splurge a bit.

Anyways I digress,

I picked up two Pioneer TSW310D4.

I was wondering if I would be better to get one alpine type R or both of those. The gentleman at the store said that the pioneers would sound more clear but the type R would be louder. I think two the of Pioneers would be descent enough but I do like it loud so I'm a little concerned.

Alpine type R: http://www.visions.ca/Catalogue/Cate...73&sku=SWR12D2

Amp for power: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...JX1000-1D.html

The amp slightly over powers it but I won't run it fully. However I will be running it in 2 ohms and the subs at 4 ohms. However my basic understanding of electricity leads me to believe this won't be an issue.

What do you guys think about choosing the Pioneers over the Alpine?

And as a second question, I wanted to create my ported box for it I was wondering if anyone had tips on the design or knew where to find a schematic?

both suck. Pioneer subwoofers are extremely low end bottom of the barrel when it comes to subwoofers so out of the two, the alpine is the superior woofer. I've owned the alpine and had them in many boxes, they did an okay job and sounded okay. Its just OKAY

As of now, the only thing pioneers do right are their head units and stage 4 components, would not go to them for anything else, especially subs.

NOW these woofers completely stomp the Type Rs in every way possible, hits highs, lows, everything clearly and its waaaay louder and can handle a lot more power than the alpine even though its conservatively rated at 600 watts. This was done in a lot of comparison boxes on a lot of power and low power, threatcon sub handed the type R's ass to it every time.

C2 Audio 12" Threatcon-2 Dual 4 Ohm

there is a two ohm option you can choose. Run it at 2 ohms, you'll want the extra power.

*OFFICIAL* Free Ported Box Plans (56k NO!!) - Dodge SRT Forum Here are free designs with cutout sheets, just cut it out, glue and screw, choose whichever fits your car. For the threatcon, 2 cubic feet tuned to 32-36hz works great.

Look into doing the big 3 upgrade too, basic wiring upgrade that will help your car's electrical system work smoothly, you'll need it for the power you plan on running.

Thanks for the advice guys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm going to give these pioneers a quick try and if I don't like them i'll return and look into others. I took a look at that link for the boxes but I didn't see a 2 12" box for 1.5 Cu.ft at 37 hz

because that would only give .75 cubic feet for each sub which is barely enough airspace for 8s basically will sound like sh*t because the sub is suffocating.

If Explore the car audio world, there are underground competition level subs that are affordable that will crush any mainstream woofer you can bring out.

here's what 2 threatcon 12s can do in a SEALED BOX.

it'll get crazier with a ported.

no way you'll get that kind of output with those pioneers. keep in mind, phone cameras cant pick up sound for crap, these woofers sound clean.

Yeah no everywhere i've looked for those subs are sold out. But I already have the pioneers so I might as well give them a try and if I'm super unimpressed i'll return them. It's the shipping to Canada that kills me. If it wasn't for that I would have looked into sound qubed or something.

But what do you mean by 8's?

8 inch subs need around 0.5 - 1.25 cubic feet airspace per subwoofer.

When you want a 1.5 cubic feet box tuned at 37hz for 2 12s, no 12s will perform well in that box because subwoofers need to breath. They need proper airspace to perform or else you are limiting your subwoofer's performance down to 20% of what they can actually do. 2 12s need 3 to 5 cubic feet airspace so thats 1.5 to 2.5 cubic feet for each.

If you dont have enough space, you'll want to go with a smaller subwoofer so it can be in a right enclosure. The enclosure is what gets you loud.

Oh sorry I meant 1.5 CU per sub
Closest you'll get

3 cubic feet total at 35hz thats 1.5 per sub.

The box can work for a 15 or two 12s

Crap, I just realized my trunk is only 35" wide. And I need a design for 2 subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Just because it has 1 circle does not mean its meant for only 1 sub you have the space to cut two 12" holes on each design man. If you need a higher tuning then shorten the port an inch or two, it'll give more airspace. The more airspace the better.
