Ok everyone, here is my dilemna. The ONE headunit that has everything I could ever want in it is the DEH-P860 and I do have one, but it has the dreaded ground problem. My question to you all is A) If you got it fixed, how much did it cost (I dont believe I can send it to pioneer because I bought it from an online dealer and never registered it) B) If you did get it fixed, did it break again or was the one-time fix the cure all for the problem? I want to fix my headunit, but I am afraid that if this is a recurring problem, that I will just be wasting money and this headunit is just too good to give up on, can anyone help me on this matter?? thanks!! O, and one last question, is there a BEST place to have it repaired at?

can u explain this gnd problem plzzz. i had 1 and neva had a prob wit it
MANY of the higher end Pioneer headunits of last year's model had a ground trace problem from the factory, some have it some dont. you may have gotten one of the good ones. but its basically alternator whine like if you have a bad ground or something like that, and it is HORRIBLE. I want to fix it permanently but if it keeps breaking after repair, then i dont want to waste money on it.

oh ok, i had a lil whine from mine. but it wasnt too bad. juss try diff ground for it. mine was barely noticeable, only time u could hear it when the hu is paused. but it was loud though. u'd have to listen real hard to hear it, but it was there. so i didnt bother to correct it. i'd call pioneer and see wha they have to say about it

mines the same way. ive heard of grounding it straight from the chassis of the headunit to ground or something like tha t but dont try it till someone else clears it up more. i havent messed with it cause it doesnt annoy me it rarely does it and when it does i can barely hear it

i dont have a problem with mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif try grounding your stereo to bare metal instead of factory ground

i have the 860 mp... and i have the wine problem..

ground the wire to the screw on the back of the unit farthest the the left.... if you ground it to the one in the center, it does not work, losen the screw a little, wrap some small guage wire around it ( i used left over remote wire from my wiring kit) and then wrap the other end around the rca jacks. its worked for me on my mp860 and my AVH-5700. i have no problems what so ever with it now, it is crystal clear.

so i dont even have to ground it ot the chassis, just take a piece of wire and wrap it around the negative RCA jack and then to the far left screw on the HU?? if tahts all i gotta do, then thats easy!! please confirm before i do this though as i want to do it right //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

also, was your problem the infamous ground trace problem or just system whine??

yep, that's all you do, and no it wasn't system whine because it only did it when i had pioneer HU's, i had an Alpine 9855 in for a few days and it didn't do it.

there was a thread on here with some pics of how it's done, but i can't seem to find it, do a little searching and it'll come up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif good luck!

ok, i am looking at the back of my HU, is it the screw right under the antenna lead going into the back of the headunit

its possible, or what i did, was hooked the end of the wires to the rca, then just touched it to various parts of the unit, and wherever the noise stopped i grounded it there... but i do remember there being one spot where it didn't stop, and i think it was one of the center srews.
