ALARM SUCCESS STORY AND OTHER THEFT PREVENTION TIPS from a Alarm Tech. MUST READ!

Do you guys think it is worth having a 2-way on your car as opposed to a standard alarm? I noticed with my Ungo SR5000 that it didn't have the best range, so I downgraded to a S100. I am thinking about using an Audiovox APS-596 on my Saab though.

the current 2ways are not the end-all answer, however they do aid people. some have made comments such as when the pager goes off in the mall, you might just make it in time to see them drive away, which could be true. An alarm at best is just a deterrant. It will not protect your gear, it will not catch the thieves, it will not throw them in jail and press charges for you. Anyone that thinks its more than a deterrant is brain-dead. Tell me how starter-kill will help against a thief with a tow-truck?

now the best thing i have seen for an alarm to date is the new skyteks with the camera incorporated with the alarm. It still will be just a deterrant however it could provide the proof to help prosecute the thief.

Wow, you guys hate each other a lot. It would be funnier if it wasn't so stupid.

I have one of the best security systems available....a garage.

Same here!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I have had stuff jacked out of cars with, and without alarms, and sadly most are set up so sensitive that all the false alarms have made people jaded to alarm sirens, and nobody even looks anymore. I love this stuff, and there is some exciting technology available now, but sadly most alarms are installed by hacks that just set them up too sensitive.

I recommend setting the sensitivity half to 3/4 towards max. If you have a dual stage shock, the warn away will most likely get it before the full trigger, unless it is a hard enough strike. I have found that half to 3/4 is a safe setting for most situations without having to deal with many false alarms.

Are you sure about the bulldog alarms, about not being able to add more sensors? look at the 6002 and 7002s I think you can add aleast 1 extra sensor

You sent me a PM asking me this same question, but just referring to the 6002. I replied back that I am not familiar with that certain model and to check out their website @ http://www.bulldogsecurity.com

I see that it is still down for repairs, but will most likely be up soon.

I know that Bulldog has complete security systems with all the hook-ups. I am talking about the DIY self contained 'all-in-one' 2/4 wire hook-ups you can buy at Auto Parts stores. They have Power, Ground, LED, antenna with a built in shock sensor and current. No other outputs, not even flashing lights. I have installed these systems for others on a budget, but need some alarm protection.

you are correct. mr. alarm tech isnt as bright as he wants you to think.

I did not say I know it all. Life is a learning process everyday. I have worked in the security field for a long time now and have helped many out both on the Web and in Real Life.

It really is amusing to point out the shortcomings and mistakes of others isn't it? How could you not have known the exact specs of every alarm ever made??!! LOSER! Jesus, you guys need to notch it back a few and calm down. I think there is plenty of e-thuggery as it is, and if you use one guys opinion (off the 'net no less) to design your alarm/system/car you deserve whatever you get, that's what forums are for...to talk with MANY people, who hopefully have experience with a specific product or procedure, or just plain know more. That being said, you have to take everything with a grain of salt as much is subjective.

Agree!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

no, i dont know ish about the bulldogs, i just did a simple google search to find your answer.

Which anyone can do.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

however i didnt come on here claiming to be an alarm tech either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Do not tell me what my profession is or isn't!

I have worked for ADT and many other security companies installing Residential, Commercial both Burglary & Fire along with auto security.

Now I am self employed: Alarm Detection Protection.

It will not protect your gear,

Refer to the very first post by myself in this thread and then come back and state that again about"It will not protect your gear".

it will not catch the thieves,

Again, refer to first post.

it will not throw them in jail and press charges for you. Anyone that thinks its more than a deterrant is brain-dead.

Tell me how starter-kill will help against a thief with a tow-truck?

Speaking of a tow truck, I just covered up my tow eye hooks with sheet metal with bolts and nuts. At least slow them down. I am talking about the standard front end tow. I know there are tow trucks that has 'arms' that grab and lift the car. The driver does not even have to leave the cab! I have seen it in action on the Discovery Ch, "Repo Men, Stealing for a living".

now the best thing i have seen for an alarm to date is the new skyteks with the camera incorporated with the alarm. It still will be just a deterrant however it could provide the proof to help prosecute the thief.

I agree.

Putting sheet metal over your tow hooks will do nothing. You do not have to tow by tow hooks.. there are many places you can do it if you dont have tow hooks, and especially if you're in a bind. Think a theif really cars about your car? It will most likely get stripped anyways, why not just throw a chain around the axle tube and pull 'er in.

I am aware that there are other means to do it, but I look for anyway to try to slow them down and covering the tow hooks is a basic start.
