I'm a girl. Don't laugh. I know nothing about cars.

I bought an Aiwa CD receiver a year or two ago, the CDC-X227 model to be exact and placed it into my old beat up 1985 Toyota Corolla, it fit perfectly w/o the "cage" that comes with stereos (wiring was fine also). Well now I want to transfer the receiver over to my Honda Civic, but its to small and I dont have the cage anymore. What do I do? I've searched around for installation kits and I've come up w/ one made by Metra, but do I still need the original "cage" part? If so, I guess I'm out of luck huh?

This is what I found so far: http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=99-9001, if I purchased this, would this allow me to put my stereo in my car?

I've already purchased this: http://www.metraonline.com/product.aspx?sku=70-1720

Thanks!

it is called a sleeve. im shure you might have some luck by searching for a sleve. you need the sleeve to hold the H/U onto the housing so it doesnt fall out. hope this helps. if not ive wasted 5 min of my life.

The kit that you found (first link) is designed to allow you to install a shaft-type radio into the Civic. Your Aiwa is not a shaft type (nor is any CD player) so the kit wouldn't do you any good. You really do need the mounting sleeve. If your Civic was made before 1996, you shouldn't need any kind of kit once you have the sleeve.

You can try going to an car audio shop where Aiwa is sold and see if they have any extra mounting sleeves lying around. Check with the installers, not the salespeople. Take the head unit with you when you go. If they have a sleeve from another brand, you can try it and see if it will work with a little adapting.
