Aftermarket Radio installation with factory RDS???

Is it true that if you have a car with RDS and you want to install and aftermarket radio that you have to keep the factory one, and connect both the factory and aftermarket so that the aftermarket radio will work.

this is the one of stupidest shit ive heard. but a self-proclaimed "proffesional" installer told me this that this is the way he does it.

i just want to correct this guy. i know you can buy a Peripheral or a PAC interface to make it work.

 
I THINK its gonna be the metra gmos04. If its not that itll be the gmos01. You can find the part you need exactly at metraonline.com. But no you wont need to keep the radio in there with that part, that is old school lol.
