Aero Ports & Tuning Frequency

Hey peoplez,

Let's say, in a 2 cubic feet enclosure, a 12" long 3" diameter circle port tunes the enclosure to 28hz. Okay. What about Aero ports? The inside of the port is indeed 3", but according to Crunchfield (lol) they are 4.3" in diameter on the outside....

Does that change the tuning any? Or does it simply just take up more space?

I guess I'm trying to ask, as long as the internal diameter of the port is 3" will the enclosure be tuned to 28hz regardless of the external diameter of the port?

Please help, Thanx //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Internal dimension is what counts for the dimensions of the port, and for the same volume box, you will get the same tuning with any given set of port dimensions. The thing that will change it at all is the fact that the tube takes up volume and thus the net volume will be kicked down a little bit, and you will have to compensate for this in your tuning calculations.

It will be just fine..it will change tunning by less then .01hz by internal net volume...Don't no why you would be worried..The areo port is the best port you can get. If you need any further info on boxes, tunning, or SPL design..feel free to PM me..

Oh, hold up, one more thing...

So, if the size of the port can change the tuning of the box (though very little), when you put your sub in place, that must affect tuning too huh?

I mean, that takes up space too. Some more than others.

Correct...When your using a slot port and you dont account for the piece of wood that also can change tuning. We're talking about .xx's here though. When the volume changes and the port stays constant the tuning will change and vise versa. Its definately not something to be concerned about as far as an audible difference. If your going to use the aeroports, they are really easy to change tunings anyway.
