Hi All,

I have been lurking and reading this and a couple of other boards for a while trying to get an understand of the terms, products, and just info in general before I posted. This board with all the people, is a great site, but I am just plain confused. So please bear with me. With all the products and stuff out there could you point me in a direction for speakers and amps? I mean just who to start looking at? From what I've read, I've pretty much got the head unit down to a couple of manufacturers, Alpine, Eclipse, Pioneer, please that's not to say that all the others are bad, but I had to start somewhere. But could you guys and girls point me towards which manufacturers you would reccomend for spaekers and amps? I know this is totally subjective, but I have to start somewhere. I'll bother you later about which of their products to reccomend once I choose the manufacturer:laugh: . Okay here are some of the specifics that I know I will be asked.

Budget- I'm willing to go up to at least $700 for both

Install- will be in a 98 Durango.

I have 6 speakers in there now- tweeters in the upper part of the doors, woofers in the lower part, the Infinity system that came with the truck.

I would like to stick with six and maybe move to eight speakers.

Type of speakers-component(unless you think otherwise)

I will sound deaden the doors (I read that article- very good!)

Any other info you need just give a shout.

Thanks in Advance!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

One set of two way components would be much better than "8 speakers". Thats just nutts as far as imaging goes. Simplistically, this will be a lot better. Then choose between one or two subwoofers or none at all and you should be set to go.

I also have a 98 Durango. The factory speaker locations ****. They position the speakers soooo low in the door. I mounted my tweeters where the factory ones are but I wish I had tried them in different spots first. It just doesn't sound right for some reason. Imaging is way off. Thinking about building custom door panels over the winter. Can never go wrong with a Pioneer head unit. I'm also a fan of Beyma speakers. they get loud, sound decent and the prices aren't too bad.

I agree, however does the durango have third row seating? If you're in the third row and a sub's going, it'd be nice for the passengers, if ya had something back there.

GL Truck. Hopefully you'll get plenty of help. Nice to see new folks coming on who have searched already, and are able to communicate in a manner in which most of us can understand. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif Gl man.

As far as amps, there are a lot of different companies out there, and really you're going to need to decide on speakers first so you know what you have to power IMHO.

As far as speakers go, I'd go with a nice set of components up front, and then maybe some rear fill speakers in the stock locations (for passenger's pleasure) if you don't want to do a whole lot of work.

With speakers, I'd look into alipine (type-x's), CDT, and well, my mind is truly drawing a blank right now, but I'll respond later with more brands when I catch up on some sleep with a nap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks All!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Yes the D does have third row seating and one seven year old passenger has laid claim to that area Ha Ha.

Thanks Cam2, Whew! What a list. I'm going to start out listening to CDT, Alpine and Beyma for speakers for right now. No particular models, if I like what I hear I'll then post for pro,'s cons, and model recomendations. If I don't like what I hear I'll move on to the next set of manufactures. Thanks.

What's your budget though for speakers. Beyma's aren't exactly budget minded, and I think there's better stuff for the money than CDT's(I should update that list)

Alpine Type-X components(SPX-177R) however are very good for the money(200 shipped). I'd try those out first. You might love them.

I'd like to stay in the $200 to $300 range for speakers and the same for the amp. So I'm planning about $700. That may be high or low, I really don't know, but I figured I would put aside enough money to get something that sounded good, especially if I'm going to ask for recomendations. Its my DD and since I spend about 3 hours back and forth to work I want something that sounds good. Most of what I listen to is Jazz, mellow and real old time stuff and when my younger portion takes over my brain I'm listening to House and that sort of stuff. So I guess I'm looking for something that will give me the best of both those worlds, if that's possible. Thanks Again:)

I'd love to say yes, but I really don't know what I would be buying, and I don't mean that the way it sounds, I mean I really just don't know, I would get it and then say ,Okay what do I do with it?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Thanks anyway!

But if thats a for sure no thats cool as well. Lowest price on ebay is 280 shipped //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

D5600.2 is a 2 channel amp 150 watts rms x 2 @ 4 ohms or 600 watts rms x 1 @ 4 ohms bridged.

Good amp, good price too. As for speakers, I'd check out the Oz Audio matrix Elite, they go for about 350. If you want to spend more and get something REALLY nice, Seas Lotus Reference 2 way from http://www.mobilesq.com
