can anyone point me towards an amp that will do 600-800 watts at 1 ohm.... it doesnt need to be top notch, lower to average quality is fine. seems like everything i find in a 1 ohm stable class d is pushing 1000+ watts. i need something smaller....

look into an aq1200, sundown 1k, rockford fosgate 1000.

although they are all 1000+ watts, you simply turn the gain lwoer and protect your subs from clipped signal, if you can keep the electric up, which you should have no problem.

You could use a volt-meter and some 0db test tones to adjust the amp's gain so that it stays under your target.

If it's a 1k watt amp it should be able to hit your target wattage with very little distortion.

Edit* You guys are fast!

buy somthing that puts out 1000 @ 1ohm, adjust your gain proberly. All it takes is a DMM and a 50Hz frequency test

My APSM1300 is rated for 1000 @ 1 but its running 700rms @ 1 to my JBL power 10 as we speak, 30volts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Mines coming back from amp medics today! Im so excited
Although it too is rated 1000 @ 1, but it really puts out like 1150-1200
dude. a friend let me barrow his for a temp amp to my amp got delivered. and it was the loudest 1000rms amp ive heard

i wish the memphis 2000 was 1 ohm stable. hell 1150 - 1200 is under IMO lol soundeed like close to 1400

op could also look into the aq750, but i agree with having more power on tap than pushing something to the limit.
i agree... i was saying going with a little more lets him have options later for a upgrade...

i have had the aq750 as well i didn use it my wife did

well, the electrical system is one of my concerns... its just a little old 94 cavalier. i will run a 2nd battery and do the big 3, but i dont plan on doing much more for the charging system...

i do have 2 D4 ohm subs. i know i could run them at 4 ohms off of a 2 channel amp, but i am looking for efficiency here. im no expert, but from what i always read the mono channel class d's are much more efficient (correct me if im wrong)

most of you are advising larger amps....i dont want a 1000w amp. no only is it too big, it is a waste of money for me. i was just looking at a Diamond D600.1 on ebay. it the correct size and fits the budget. i also see RF has a P500-1bd out that is stable to 1 ohm. i dont know if RF is still the quality that they once were, but when i was younger i had a couple of their amps that were WAY underrated. if that is still the case, im sure this amp will push close to 600w.

im on a big budget here with the amp guys.

i wont need more power to upgrade. this is just a small budget stereo going in the ****-banger i drive to work. as i said above, my charging system is going to be tapped out the way it is...i dont need to push it any more than i need to....

explain this procedure.
Turn gain on amp all the way down.

Play a 50hz 0db test tone on your HU and set to "repeat".

Connect meter to output of amp and set to "AC voltage".

Calculate how many volts you need for your target wattage at the impedance your sub(s) present to the amp. The square root of PXR.... (the power you want)X (the impedance you have) = the voltage you want. For 700 watts @ 1 ohm, the amp should supply ~26.46 volts.

Turn up the HU to it's max un-clipped signal. (Even with the gains down on the amp, you should be able to hear when the HU signal gets distorted and back off the volume a bit.)

Now turn up the gain on your amp until your meter reads your target voltage.

Some amps, like the JL slash amps allow you to do this with no speakers connected, because the amp will ensure the given voltage happens with almost every load. However, with most amps, I would do this wile the amp is under load to be sure of what the amp does with the speaker connected. (Just make it quick. No need to run your maximum power to your sub just to "play" with the gain.)

You're done.

i am going to totally contradict what i said about 1000w.....but i just found a hifonics 5 channel amp (ZXi60.4 + 1k) that does 1000w@1ohm on its 5th channel. i will be running an amp on my highs too.....so i could kill two birds with one stone with this amp. i really like the price of it too. $285 with free shipping on ebay. on all the other amps iv been looking at im spending close to that on just the sub amp.....i still need a amp for the highs.
