Advice for a low budget 2.1 system?

I'll shortly be picking up a Samsung 50" DLP rear projection. I'm looking for a basic 2.1 setup for the living room that will get me by until I build my house in early 2009. The house will have a dedicated movie room so I'm not looking to do anything other than a small setup for now since it won't be used in the movie room later. I'll start with a clean slate on the HT room, so the TV, speakers, receiver, all of that will not be going in the movie room.

I'm down to the following:

I need a 2.1 receiver (or a 2 channel with subwoofer signal out).

I need 2 bookshelf/tower speakers for L/R.

I need the receiver to be able to produce sound from TV/DVD. CD's can be played through my DVD player.

I'd like to have HDMI so that I can run 1 wire instead of 2 (tv is HDMI ready).

If not, optical would be just as good.

If not, oh well.

Budget would be $350 tops for receiver and speakers. The more I can get from PE, the nicer it would be since I have to get wire, and subwoofer (see below) there.

I have been looking at this receiver, but am not sure how to get the subwoofer to work with both DVD & TV, since there's no dedicated sub out.

I want a 10" dayton powered sub, and for $100 shipped I'll probably go ahead and get it, but this isn't part of the $350 budget.

if you've got a little carpentry skills you could try some DIY bookshelf speakers and get all ur parts from PE. I know there is a thread if you search that's got a link to a site where u can get parts list and instructions for some nice budget book shelf speakers.

Nah, no DIY this time around. I'm so burnt out right now on installing (thank the car) that I don't even want to touch DIY for another year. lol.

But you won't be touching CAR diy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Cabinets will take no more than a good 1 days worth of work (excluding finishing) and you'll be left with a much better product for the price //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Edit: Take a look at Zaph's site, lots of good CHEAP and easy projects there...

Or for even more simplicity, full range: http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker18.html

You will need a steep crossover for that last one, and don't expect it to be extremely loud, but definitely acceptable..

I'm planning on doing the BAMTM soon, should be fun. Gonna pair that with my IDQ15 taking care of the low-end, should sound great.

Go DIY, at your budget it's gonna be almost impossible to get quality off-the-shelf speakers.

since your looking to cheap out build these //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

the satelites for the 2 bookshelfs. could build the MTM, but since this is just temp the satelites would probably be a better option.

for a reciever you could buy a Harmon Kardon 5.1 reciever ( i got mine for 230 bucks ) and then reuse it in the new house. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I don't see how they're making money on $100/ea., unless there's major compromises in the crossover and enclosures...
Those were my thoughts, probably 10 dollars in parts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Probably less than that if you aren't including the drivers.

And, probably not much more than that if you are including the drivers.

You can hook a sub up to that receiver. I have one sitting in my showroom w/ a JBL powered 10 hooked up to it. All you have to do is hook the sub up to the record out for it to get signal. Now i know that its not a sub out but it still works fine here
