Well, I have a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado that I am trying to improve the sound system on. It has the original mono AM/FM wonderbar radio, and I absolutely will not change that fact. The front speaker is a 4x10 rated at 8 ohms, the rear is a 6x9 rated at 10.
The front is a really, really tight space, the only thing I've found to fit there is a Retrosound DVC 4x10: R-410N. My factory speaker was 2" from top to bottom, this is 1 3/4"
For the back I've got alot of room once it's installed... but getting it into place is tight, so I again was looking at the Retrosound, as it's got the shortest heights.
Also, both of my speakers only have one wire to each them. They ground out to the baskets on the speakers.
So, I guess, my questions are, what do I need to make this work? Or, is there a better setup? If I have to have an amp, I'd like it to be as physically small as possible so I can tuck it out of the way. And, I can't tell you how much I would love to not have to run an 8 ga. wire from my engine compartment through my firewall to power it, lol.
Ultimately, I'd like to get good quality sound, more than anything, however, I realize with a 45 year old radio, I won't exactly be HiFi no matter how much money I throw at it. Cheaper is better, but I do have a bit to play with if that's what would be best.
Thanks.
