Man, you are just not wanting to hear the point I am trying to make...I understand man...took me a long while to actually listen as well.
Let me turn it away from guns for a second...and say this.
I mean if I said to you, you are less likely to get in a car accident if you never drive a car. Would you be debating the point as much?
Probably not.
These are not "my" stats man - this is just the case. All these stats are per capita man...so sure an increase in incidents as lots of people have guns. But lots of people dont. So the probability is:
number of incidents in a home with a gun/number of homes with a gun
vs
number of incidents in a home without a gun/number of homes without a gun
So you end up with the probability TOTALLY independent of raw number of people or incidents. Its not magic man. Honestly man, why are supiscious of the stats? Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to understand what makes you not believe them.
The point is even when you factor out race, income, location etc. - having a gun at home makes it MORE likely you get injured by one. I don't understand why that is so difficult to believe. I mean without a gun at home, does it not make sense it is harder for injuries due to intentional violence OR accidents less likely? I mean, is it hard to believe if you have no access to a gun you are less likely to be injured by one?
The increase in proability of getting hurt is NOT mainly due to accidents, or robberies, etc. It IS DUE to intentional misuse of a firearm during heated arguments. Having firearms at home escalate the possibility of where these arguments leads dramatically. So all the "safety" training goes out the window when you are dealing with angry, jealous, etc. people. And this risk is >>>>>>>>>> then accidents, or robberies, etc.
Ofcourse with #'s into the millions the stats as you would call them are going to show more incidents. However what those stats do not show you are the fact that most everyone with any sort of common sense teaches their children about guns & what NOT to do should they ever come across one. Ive taken people as young as 13 shooting with hammered into their heads the 1st rule of keep you finger off the trigger. Period.
Those homes with incidents are most likley (99% of the time anyway) homes were nobody took the time to teach their children anything. Thats when accidents happen.
Its like with driving man, driving is more dangerous then carrying a firearm. So why in the world would you ever consider putting a child in a car? Yet alone let them drive alone when then get a license //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif Ever check those stats?
Not the mention the variables mixed into it as well, where with a gun, you just have to not to 1 thing and it will never fire. Dont squeeze the trigger.
