Hey guys. I bought 4 alpines s-types (6.5's) and an Alpine CDE-9852 Head Unit. So, the guys at best buy said i'll need an amp in order to get more than 4 speakers workings in my car because there are only 4 audio outputs. SO...If i want six speakers working, i need an amp right? And second, I want to add a sub so what type of amp do i need (how many channels)???

i personally have noticed when i dont have rear speakers theres a difference. i prefer to have those hooked up. I want my rears hooked up too. There are only 2...so, i need an amp that will power 2 speakers and a sub. The Head Unit will power the front 4 right? remember, i have 6 speakers total

ummm nooo u really shouldnt do that.....trust me if you have subs u really dont need rear speakers.......either get a 4channel amp for the door speakers and a mono amp or just get the mono to power the subs and power the speakers with the HU (even though i wouldnt advise this)

you got it completely opposite....

you need to amp the fronts and leave the rears to power off the hu...

why the hel l did you get 4 6.5" speakers for the front????? that makes no sense.. the only thing 4 of the same speakers will do is screw with the sound stage and make your system like 3db's louder .... no gains in sq what's so ever....

get a decent two channel amp to power only two front speakers, run the two rears off of the hu if you really want them.... and buy a mono (1 channel) amp to power whatever sub your going to buy...

heres the thing, the fronts are the heart and soul of the system.... and they need the best treatment possible...ever hear a concert with your back to the singer? I didn't think so, in a concert the music comes from in front of you, with a small amount of sound bouncing off of the wall behind you... so the rears should only be at about 5 - 10% of the front's volume...

ok..wow...that clears a lot up. Only thing is i have 4 front speakers. So, will a 2 channel amp power the 4 front speakers or do i need a 4 channel amp?
if you have 4 front speakers (all the same speaker) i would really strongly positively suggest that you take two out lol... but if you do have 4 then get a 4 channel amp, if you take my advice, which i really strongly positively suggest that you do, then you need to get a 2 channel amp...

this is one of those times that the first quote in my signature applies...

ok...so u think i really only need 2 speakers in the front (powered by 2 channel amp). the 2 speakers in the back can be powered by the Head Unit. And the Mono Sub will power my sub. IMPORTANT POINT....I got 4 speakers install (2 back & 2 front/bottum) and a HU installed at best buy, and now my top front speakers dont work. only the bottum/fronts work, but this takes away from the expirience. they said i need an amp and two more speakers to put in the top/front because once they took my factory HU out, those top/front factory speakers stopped working.

okay clarify something for me, tell me what speakers you have right now and the exact locations they're mounted.

kinda sounds like he has a comp set up front, and bout 2 speakers to replace the mids and 2 for the rear. Is that correct?

By comp set i mean componet set which mean tweeter and mid

I have 2 speakers in the front/bottum. Those are the new alpines. The Top/Front Speakers (1 in each corner) are bose and dont work anymore because they HU is alpine. The back Speakers are new alpines as well. They are at the bottum in the door.

i think what you mean is that you have alpine 6.5" in the door and 1" bose tweeters in the corners of the dash, with 6.5" alpines in the rear doors. Oh and slap the idiots at bb because the bose would work with the hu if they connect it....

one more thing, are the alpines coaxial or just woofers? show me which speakers you bought...
