add a sub or leave it out?

Ok I am looking to rebuild my system and I am going back and forth on this. I definetly good sound quality. I don't know if I should focus on good speakers/amp or decent speakers, sub, and amp. I definetly miss the way a sub sounds and the feeling of it but can I get that with a good set of comps?

IMO u need a sub. Bass is a must. But the focus should be the component/amp combo
x2.

I don't believe in spending more on your sub stage than on your component stage since the sub stage only covers from about 120hz (the slope begins at 120hz, but most of the time full power comes in at 100hz) to 20hz... which is a small scale in the audible range of 20 hz to 20K hz.

So, you're basically spending all this money for a small portion of the audible scale. I say great components, and a decent sub.

(I've spent 400 on my comp stage, and roughly 250 on my sub stage. Prices include amp.)

Just add a nice set of Comps...a nice Rainbow set FS in FS section right now. Deaden the doors and seal it up, shud sound nice. You don't really need the 6x9's unless you just want a rear fill... I disconnected my 6x9's and just run the Digital Design component set and it sounds **** good.

I mean, I'm no SQ guy but it sounds good.

Buy a nice Component amp/Components and buy a decent sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

CDT is pretty good. My friend Kevin had a set in his Subaru a while back, and a friend Bryan currently has a set of CDT in his van that sound **** good.

I'll see if I can get him to chime in on them. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Well I was wondering, if I go with the rear fills and have them hooked up to the amp with the comps, will that give me fairly decent bass to some what mimic a small sub until I have the money for an actual sub?

Unless you build pods around the 6x9's I wouldn't consider it. Forthat effort, it'd just be beneficial to just buy a small 10" sub or so..

Best 6 1/2" components you can afford upfront. Decent 4 channel amplifier power for them, then add a budget sub powered off channels 3 &4 of the amp. Build a box yourself. Budget a bit of $$$ for decent cableing (knuknoceptz) and some deadening material.

Main focus should be on componets and power, but even a small/cheap sub really helps improve the energy and realism of the audio.

Skip the rear speakers. Spend the money on mains, amp, sub, wiring and dampening.
