Active Setup

Whats up guys, I finally have my CD8455 and I plan on setting up an active front stage. It might take me a week just to read the **** manual, of 250 pages. Anyways what I was wondering is do passive crossovers bleed off any power from the amp?

Here is the situation, I have a set of Cl-62 component spakers (6.5") That came with the passive crossover. They say to have a 180W RMS power handling with a 100hz high pass on them. So my other question is can they still take the 180W even if the power does not go through their passive crossover.

Here is what I plan to do, I guess I will need a 4 channel amp 150 x 4. Using the HU I plan on putting a 100hz 24db LPF on the sub, 100hz 34db HPF on the mid, maybe a 2200 24db LPF on the mid, and a 2200 24db HPF on the tweeter.

So each speaker will be getting 150W, can they handle that. I am not to sure about any of the filters yet, I am still reading up, they are just their for example but please feel free to comment.

they can probably handle it
just curious, how much did you pay? have you installed it yet?
I paid 199 for the CDT's, it was some summer sale or something from CDT. I have them installed right now but I am using the passive crossover that came with them. They sound fine, but I have never heard an active setup so I figured that I am going to do it for myself. I just got a CD8455 so I really want to run them active and see how they sound.

p.s If anyone lives in VA somewhere near me let me know Id like to hear some other setups to see how they sound. I live in a small town so the only ppl around me are high school kids with bs setups.

Next question would be what amp? I have a limited budget, I would like to stay under 300 the less the better because I will probably need electrical upgrades. This is what I came up with.

Orion 8004 100x4 at 4 ohms. I can pick one up for 300 shipped 1 year warranty.

PG 8.0:4 125x4 at 4 ohms. I can get one of these for 200 shipped 1 year warranty.

Lanzar OPTI200x4 125x4 at 4 ohms. I can get a refurb for 250 shipped with 2 year warrenty. I know its a refurb but it has 2 year warrenty, so how bad can it be.

I really like the Lanzar because it will match my sub amp, just wondering how they stand up. I also really like the 8004 but it is just a little pricey and puts out less power then the other two. Feel free to add more to the list. I need a 4 channel that does somewhere between 100-200 per channel at 4 ohms. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

EDIT: 8004 is 250 shipped.

nice to see that you got your deck. yea the manual we'll be a read. i read that thing forever trying to figure out everything. enjoy and if you have any questions regarding the deck feel free to ask.

Yeah I will probably have a few questions about the **** thing after I read it. I am planning on using E-Iserv to help me out the PEQ and stuff I just have to wait for the Memory card reader that I ordered to come. It will be here wednesday. I will let you know how it goes, and how this active setup sounds. Thanks.

Well I have narrowed it down to the 8004 and the Lanzar. Both same price. I am really stuck betweent these two. I would like to order tomorrow so if anyone has any advice please post it up because I just cannont decide //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif . Thanks in advance.

Well ****, I guess I am not getting the 8004. That really sucks that was the one that I was leaning toward. The 8455 puts out 8V on the preouts and the 8004 only goes up to 5V. I guess I am going to order the lanzar tomorrow unless has something else that I should look at. Thanks guys.

Andrew

I've got an Avionixx 440.4 for sale.
It is a little underpowered. I think it does 4x85 at 4 ohms, is that right. I think I may just pick up the Lanzar so I can match everything up. PM me with a price though I will give it some thought. Thanks.
