I am familiar with both passive and active crossover designs, my question is as follows:

If the amplifier already has built-in low/high/bandpass filters how would a active crossover improve the system.

Wouldn't the active crossover on the amplifier serve this purpose or does the active crossover before the amplifier offer something the amplifier does not offer ?

Is the crossover/s on an amplifier such as mine considered active or passive ?

Maybe the active crossover before the amplifier offers more adjustments than just the crossover on the amplifier ?

Educate me, please..

Electronic crossovers are "active". That includes the LP and HP filters in an amp. Passive means no powered devices (opamps, DSP etc), just capacitors, resistors, and inductors.

HU crossovers and amp HPF/LPF can be redundant depending on the install. There's no real advantage of either. Depending on the HU your choice of frequencies can be limited but the accuracy is probably better than a calibrated knob on an amp.

It's always leaned that direction. Not sure how cheap you can really get anything done these days. Deadening and custom mounting...
