Acoustic Elegance AV15

wow, i didn't expect that answer coming from you kendogg. Thanks for the honest answer.

I've never lied about anything to do with my ordeal with John and his drivers. To this day I really wish it would've just worked for me. It simply didn't. I'll have my 4 10's installed sunday afternoon though, and hopefully, I'll finally be happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

The sub sounded great, had awesome response to notes that the SPL subs would play real slopily. Obviously its hard to tell in a video from a little canon camera but I was very impressed with the response. I will be honest as well, and I told John this... I didnt expect his woofer to ever break over 140 especially with the single spider 2.5" vc and if it was possible i didnt expect it on music.

Thanks bumpin buick for taking the time to do the testing and videos. One thing that may be of interest as well is that I took an impedance curve of the driver before I left and after I got back here to the shop. The red curve is prior to leaving and the yellow curve is after coming back. You'll see that the Fs of the driver is nearly the same. It actually went up from 22.17Hz to 22.88hz after the testing. The reason for that is temperature. It was 92 degrees in the shop when I did the original test and about 75 now that I'm back. That 17 degree shift in temperature moves the FS up slightly.

After doing the 146.1, after my very sad and poor attempt at a bassrace, and after about 130dB at 72hz with a sine wave we played Forgot About Dre which has some higher more punchy bass. No lack of upper end or control when there is adequate power.

FYI I'm still planning to do a similar set of measurements on the woofer being returned from papermaker as long as bumpin buick is ok with taking the time to do it.

John

That's a very nice plateau in that impedance plot. Speaks volumes about the work that went into the motor. What do the two small peaks coincide with?

I am all for it, I am interested in seeing what happened to the sub, assuming there was a mechanical failure point some where. Its always nice to learn from those. Never seen an issue with a sub only moving one direction before so I am quite interested in that.

I must say though after chatting with you John for a few hours about the precision your company takes that the chances of mechanical failure are slim, but no matter what company it is, there will always be a risk and I think it is good that you are willing to do this testing and make sure stuff is good. I know a few companies, wont list names, that will simply say get over it or run something else.

The AV is incredibly accurate. As much hating as I do on the AV's, and as much as I feel like John dicked me over after my ordeal with mine, it's one of the most (if not the most) transient, accurate subs I've ever heard.
I have to give you respect for saying this, glad to hear from you. Yes it sucks that you had a bad experience, but I can assure you that it was not John's intention to do that to you. If you were to take that $80 from him I would not think less of you.

So this whole time I've been dicking around with thilo and shoulda tried some of johns subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

We ran a 50sec tone that every second went up 1hz starting at 70hz and ending at 75hz. Obviously cause my car peaks in the high 30s the numbers were not going to be as high but man that thing still gets loud. I got some pictures and i think a video of it as well, uploading it all right now. I want to say it was mid 130s at 70hz. For a box that peaks at 37hz though thats impressive imo.
Mid one thirties sounds about right actually. I don't know what your box was exactly but 10 decibels out of the increased cabin gain+port tuning sounds very reasonable, which would mean it really doesn't have much upper end roll-off. Which is theoretically shoudn't given it's silly low inductance. Also the peaks on the impedence plot correlate to the fs of the driver.

All parts are tooled in the US
If you don't mind get John to shoot me information on where he is getting his Ferrite slugs and Baskets as well..as I'm 100% about American made products (raw materials and such). I'd love to not have to ship magnet slugs and baskets over from the orient.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I believe the baskets and ferrites come from China still, bumpin appears to have mis spoke there, but other than that I believe it is all American parts.
