Acoustic and Thermal Insulation

stumbled on a cheap deadener. 19bux for a 3'X4' sheet. seems to repel heat as well as act as a decent sound deadener. the noise reduction coefficient is .3 and i thought that was pretty high. my only issues is application. theres no adhesive. i think if i find a liquid deadener like second skin or lizard skin, and use that to stick the insulation down that i should have a nice setup on my hands. anyone have any input? thanks

Automotive Heat, Sound and Noise Insulation Thermozite

It should be a good radiant barrier and insulator for heat transfer. It could be a decent absorber for high frequency noise and might be a good decoupler for a barrier layer. At 29.5 oz/yd² it doesn't have enough mass to block the sound you need to block. You don't need adhesive on the floor, but for vertical surfaces I'd use a contact cement.

has anyone used mlv designed for the home? i found its the same stuff but cheaper. still 1lb per sq ft. is having a foam backing worth it? i have some carpet padding that i can use instead if that would work too

It's fine, as long as you use something as a decoupler. I prefer plain MLV. It's easier to make separate layers of closed cell foam and MLV conform to the irregular surfaces and contours in a car than it is a laminated combination that is 3/8" thick. Just make sure the carpet padding you use is suitable for use in a vehicle and is resilient enough to support the mass.

Yes, make sure it doesn't catch fire easily, freeze, or absorb water. It also has to hold up the MLV, which I doubt carpet foam will. It sounds good enough for the floor though. Rudy's just being modest. Go to his website and buy closed celled foam (or is it opened?) and cld tiles, as well as butyl rope. MLV can typically be had cheaper if you have a seller near you.
