About old threads

I just read a thread that a n00b brought back from nearly 5years ago. His point was valid though. I noticed Jack had closed it and wondered, why, if it is a valid point and contributes to no dumb assedness, should it be locked and sent away again?

His point may be valid, but it's a dead thread.

Use it for archive purposes, read it and learn, but don't bring it back. How old is too old? Use your good judgement - tough around here I know - but if it's more than a few months stagnant, I probably wouldn't try to revive it.

Yeah, but what if somebody has some new information to bring to the table? Instead of making a whole new thread, just add onto it, assuming that what you have to add is on topic with what was already discussed in the thread.

Ehh...I see where you're coming from, but it would probably be cleaner and more efficient for the board simply to file that info away until the next person asks the question...you've been here long enough to know that there are really only a dozen questions ever asked on the board, only in different forms //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yet everyone gets all mad when a new thread is started with the same question...and people tell 'em to search.

...

It really doesn't bother me if someone brings up an old thread; however, it does when that old thread is like 5+ pages long.
