AA Assassin really the only/best option?

So, seems like when I asked what sub I should get for overall sound quality in the $100 range, it was a resounding "AA Assassin". However, it seems to me that a lot of the people recommending this speaker have not even heard one and are just jumping on the bandwagon.

There are so many other brands of speakers I can look at for around $100, it seems odd that almost every person is recommending the same thing. Whatever I get, it's going in a sealed box, and it'll be pushing rock music, including a lot of metal with demanding kick parts, so it needs to sound **** good and be able to keep up without missing beats.

Without just saying "Buy XXXXX sub", please, someone, give me a suggestion and explain why it's the better choice than its competitors.

Also forgot to ask, would I be better off going with a 10" rather than 12" sub for this typs of music? Only reason I ask is because it seems like the bigger speaker is more suited to booming bass, and I'm looking for more punchy, precise bass.

I run, personally, four of the AA Assassin 8's on a brutus 1600 hifonics amp. Previously I ran two Elemental Designs 9kv.2 8's. Both in the >$100 price range. I'll give ya a detail on those. You want poeple's opinions on stuff they've ran and I've never had any dealings with Mach 5, RE, or some others in the price range either. Personally, in sheer terms of SQ (looks like what ya want anway) the AA's are noticibly better than the ed's. In the same box, the AA's play a much broader spectrum of frequencies than the Elementals. They go higher with more authority and lower as well.

As for the tightness and punch of the AA's. Also better than the ed's. I run mine in a ported box tuned to 35Hz and even ported they remain very punchy and controlled. I play everything from young jeezy to korn to willie nelson and they keep up with every drumbeat and bassline. I'm super impressed with them in my ported box (mine is a more SQL setup) and assume they would only be better in a sealed box.

So, yea, I'm on the bandwagon but with good reason. For $50 a peice, they really cant be beat.

i've listened/installed assasins numerous times, and for the price, they simply cannot be beat

sure you'll get better performance by paying at least 2 times more, but for the price, they can't be beat

I paid twice more for my elementals (bought the AA's on the pre-sale) and didnt get half the performance, lol

I'm giving mine slightly more than 350w. If you're getting 2 of them, pick up a BXi 1206D, it's perfect for them and looks great. I wouldn't give them anymore than 350ish though, just to be safe. You might get away with 400w, but it really wouldn't make enough difference to bother the chance of screwing them up, IMO.

i think about 400W is about the max i'd give them.

i two sealed with about 200W for a while, then went to about 400W, and then went ported. i've also done up to about 600W each, but that was stressing them.

if you want tight bass, go with a sealed box and 300-400W to it.

300-400 to each sub or total to both subs in a sealed box?

thats what I've done!! put 2 10'' in a sealed box 400wrms each and ****!!! I love the SQ maaann! assassins are some of the best subs I have owned so far. I love them~!!

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but this seems like a good time to ask.

What will be better in terms of overall SQ and SPL coming from a single 12" Kicker CVR running at 500 watts?

1) single 12" Type R with 900 watts?

2) dual 12" AA Assassins's with 400 watts each?
