A thousand dollar budget in a ford 150

my friend wants to put in a system in his f150 extended cab. His budget is $1000 dollars just for subs, box, amp for subs, head unit, and the amp kit wires.

What are your suggestions?

he wants to place the subs on the back seat there is literally no room under the back seats its a 1998 f150. His goals are mostly SPL oriented

Theres a lot you can do with $1k. Start off by beefing up the electrical system and deaden the fvck out of it. You need to maximize the quality of your install to get the best out of your equipment.

Pretty funny the budget is almost the value of the whole vehicle

Half the system's on this board are prob worth more then the beaters they're in. Talk about f'n priorities..

I wouldn't consider a 98 f150 a beater though.

No kushy is right lol... it has 200k miles on it. but it was free his parents gave it to him he is the typical kind of kid who we like to make fun of on here. his first instinct was to go and put a "thousand" dollar JL system on lay away from a local car audio vendor. His mind was blown when I pulled up everything online for less than half the price.

As far as deadening the **** out of it... that wont happen there is no way he will go for it. but yes I myself realise the importance of deadening. I just need sugestions for what kind of subs.amp. head unit. Figured your guys advice would be better than mine.

And u can mess up putting on deadener how?

there was no rattles in any of my pannels to begin with

so after the deadener was on I was dissapointed I just wasted 75ft of deadener

Im not saying deadener does not work. I have used it for years, what im saying is in my dakota it was useless other then for the mids(only reason that was is cause it blocked all the holes, which in reality there are much more and in expensive ways of doing that better then deadener)

You didn't need to cover your entire vehicle with it. Like you said, it's for preventing rattles. But the product you used is only a small part of sound deadening your vehicle. If you expected a difference in your sub, you should have spent more money on MLV and CCF, and on making sure your windows/doors had good seals. You didn't need 75 square feet.

On topic advice: Don't put a subwoofer box on a backseat. That's retarded. If he's going to have a box taking up the seats anyway, why have them at all? I'd remove them. I also second Kush's idea about beefing up his electrical first of all. As for the head-unit, what is he looking for? Does he need nice equalization? Is he going to use CDs? iPod through USB? Something else though auxiliary? Is he planning on eventually upgrading his door speakers and using an amp for them?

If he's just looking for a cheap head unit without many features, and the rest will be electrical/sub stage, then you've got plenty of options. Do you know the amperage of his alternator?

I dont know exactly Im assuming its large.. I will try and convince him to remove the rear seats. as I also dont believe havinga 200lb projectile on his backseat is a good idea if he ever gets into an acident. as far as features on the head unit goes. aslong as it has an auxilary in he is set. but it needs to have atleast 2 set of pre outs and a decent pre out voltage. any suggestions on brands and models?

Pre-out voltage isn't that big of a deal, as long as you get a quality amp. Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion, they'll mostly all have two sets of pre-outs. Maybe go to Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers and look around. Once you've found the model you want, maybe try going to other sites(eBay, Audiosavings, WoofersEtc, VMInnovations, etc.) to see if you can get a better deal.

As long as you get 2V pre-outs and an auxiliary input, and stay within those brands, you should be fine. Just looking for a few minutes, I found this: Pioneer DEH-3400UB (DEH3400UB) In-Dash CD/MP3 Car Stereo Receiver

That should be fine for what you're looking for. If you want to go cheaper, look around online or buy used.

Do you know what size his engine is? A quick Google search should be able to tell us what size his alternator is. With the seats out(and even with them in, but you should seriously get him to take the seats out), you'll be able to secure the box pretty easily. I've read on here about people using bungee cords, metal brackets, etc.

But no one recomends the ccf, they only recomend deadener, which is what im saying sometimes is not needed
Yeah, when I initiated this conversation I didn't realize you were referring specifically to damping material. I didn't mean any harm. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/suave.gif.858fc102f7646e678ee8af7e1fbc41d1.gif
