A step in the right direction

Pitbulls are often referred to as vicious because of their owners. Let's face the facts. Pitbulls are GREAT fight dogs, they're also great guard dogs, and they have a mean look about them. Many people fight the dogs, and that's what you hear about. Many people do not properly care for their dogs or handle them often, making them antisocial and allowing their natural instincts, so to speak, to come into play.
Pits have lock jaw, they lock on and do NOT let go.

Here's a list, mind you Pit Bulls are number one, but take a look at the rest of the dogs on the list.

Most Vicious Dog Breeds

10. Dalmation

9. Boxer

8. Presa Canario

7. Chow

6. Doberman

5. Alaskan Malamute

4. Husky

3. German Shepherd

2. Rottweiler

1. Pit Bull

Okay, so notice the list. Quick question - anyone here other than me had 10x more bad luck around a small dog, say a Chihuahua? I have, personally, but disregard it, they can be great dogs. Small dogs dont get looked at the same way because they're easily controlled. Larger dogs, such as a Rott, Pit, Doberman, are all big and just as fearless if not moreso than the smaller animals, yet they have the true potential to honestly hurt you, so they're 10x more feared among people.

Pit Bulls are great dogs. They are loyal dogs, and very protective dogs. I hate how people see them, respond to them, and treat them, it is in the least unjust.
i agree 100%

Of course the big dogs are feared more they can do some real damage unlike smaller dogs so I dont see your point. And your list proves that pitbulls should be banned and im sure rotts will follow soon they are vicious dogs that are hard to train right, even if they are properly trained they can still attack if something sets them off.

While I'm at it. Most of the people here, in all honesty, are responsible when it comes to something like this.

So speak up. Who here has owned a pitbull? Who has had one, taken care of it, handled it, and not abused it - done what you should do with your animals? Has your dog just turned on you? Bit you unplayfully or intentionally?

What about owners of other dogs? Chihuahua, Rotts, Doberman, Weenie Dogs - all breeds. How about you?

It has to do with how you treat the animals.

I've had a few dogs, and my friends have had tons more than me. A friend of mine has a dog I see every day, and I would trust that dog with a child. My own child, if I had one. Sweetest dog you'll ever meet. Would I let his Jack Russell within ten feet of my child? HELL NO.

You've got your bad apples, but for the most part, as stated - all in the upbringin of the animal.

How do you not see the point? The nature of the small dogs is much the nature of the larger ones, just the larger ones are feared for the damage they can do. If the dog is treated correctly, in all breeds, they can and will be good dogs more than likely. As stated, you have bad apples, but that happens even with humans man.

It proves that pitbulls are the most "vicious" dogs, sure. Then again, how many of those "vicious" dogs have been mistreated?

People who have other "better" breeds take care of them more. You don't see people training Dachsunds to fight, or beating them with sticks and throwing a 50lb chain around their neck.

All I'm saying is that it has everything to do with the caretaker. "They're vicious and territorial" ... sure, they are. Name one dog that isnt territorial. Name one dog that will not attack when put into a situation where it feels uneasy.

My 60 year old grandparents have 2 rotts.

The male is probably 200 pounds easy, he runs like a little girl when my grandmother grabs a newspaper.

Punish the owners. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

i'd say pitty's are like a race's of people, if they are braught up to be killers they will kill, if they are braught up to be kind and loving they will be kind and loving...

because prob 10% of pittys in the world are trained to be guard dogs (bloody good guard dogs too) they get such a bad rap....... my2cw

These dogs scare me more then the pit will ever scare me.

Also, no "proof" so to speak, but I've seen a Pit and another dog fight, some mutt not too sure of what it was. Mutt made an agressive motion towards the owner of the Pit, and the Pit attacked. He locked onto the back of the dogs neck in short bursts, and then attacked again. That's why I say that.

I'm still telling you, it is the owners at fault not the specific breed. I saw my buddy's Jack Russell beat the shit out of his 2 yr old Pit. Pit was passive, the Jack Russell was aggressive. Sounds stupid, but until the point that I grabbed the Pitbull and he grabbed is Jack Russell, it was not a pretty site. Pitbull was bloody, the Jack Russell had not one scratch.

pitbulls do have a locking jaw....and they do have a very difficult time letting go because of it.

I've owned pure bred Boxers my whole life.....i've had 3 good boxers and 1 bad one.

The one that went bad was my favorite, i gave him all the love i could give. He was very energetic and smart and just down right goofy. Then i had my son....i'm thinkin i didn't give Titus(dog) enough attention and someother things went into play.

The neighbor girl was over playing with my daughter, Titus was playing with them and the neighbor girl was kinda slap boxing with him. She then was twirling her hair around his face and u know how dogs are they like to try to catch it....she then rubbed his ears and he went off. He didn't do any real damage just basically scared her. So we took the dog to the vet, i dnid't want to have any chances taken. ONce Titus was at the vet, she discouvered he had an ear infection in one ear and a peice of sheet grass lodged in his other. She removed those 2 things and his nuts and we let him come back. Then i was at work and he went crazy...was attacking my son...my girl said he didn't look himself and was scared of him...which never ever had been a problem. I ran home in the heat of rage and beat his *** man, he tried to bite me and i think i broke a knuckle on his head. i called the vet and asked if she could take him...she said she had a friend who did the dog shelter thing and would place him into a home where kids were not present. So i gave Titus and my other pure bred boxer away for free. $700.00 down the drain....i don't think i'll ever own another dog.

Just to show an example of a pitbull brought up in a loving and caring family, here is a friend of a friend's niece and their pit: Notice the pit is not devouring the little kid's head.
