Finally some cities are taking some action against these vicious child killers, these dogs offer nothing good. People dont even feel safe walking the streets knowing that an animal that doesnt know anything other than attack is out there. I hope more cities soon follow to make this world a better place.

LAKEWOOD -- Lakewood City Council passed an ordinance last night, banning pitbulls and canary dogs.
No more pitbulls or canary dogs are allowed into the City of Lakewood.

After three attacks in the past three years, council voted to outlaw the dogs within the city limits.

Pitbull owners opposed the ban but, after several public hearings, the city decided it was necessary to protect residents from these dogs.

Those who already have pitbulls in Lakewood can keep them as long as they are registered in compliance with current vicious dog laws.

Pitbulls Seized After Mauling 90-Year-Old Man on S.I.Earlier today, a 90-year-old man was mauled by a neighbor's pit bulls. The victim, Henry Pitrowski, remains at Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition.

Reports say Pitrowski was attacked on his property. Another neighbor, Reginald Bell, told the Advance he went outside when he heard the elderly man's screaming. Bell said, "The dogs were actually eating him alive. He was mauled completely. His legs were eaten to the bone. His arms were eaten to the bone." After running home to call 911, Bell brought back a butcher knife to scare the dogs off the victim.

The dogs were tranquilized and removed from the house, and WNBC reports the owner is being questioned. According to WABC 7, "The dogs had ran through the back yards to Piotrowski's property. They escaped back home to their owner's house Newark Avenue, where police quickly arrived."

Recently, a bill preventing ex-cons from owning pit bulls, Rottweilers, and other fighting dogs was introduced to the State Legislature and a year and a half ago, City Councilman Peter Vallone proposed a ban on pit bulls.

I completely disagree.

How the animal acts has little to do with it's nature - it has 300x more to do with how the animal was trained and treated. Naturally some dogs have more of a naturally "mean" way about them, but that only shows if under attack or if trained to consistently act that way.

Look throug those city records - I gurantee you that there has been plenty of other attacks. I gurantee you that pitbulls are not #1 for the most attacks by a specific breed.

I think it's stupid. Owners should be punished, not the animals.

If you guys being sarcastic...or ignorant

Why don't you go on all the pitbull sites/forums and look at all of the owners that care for the dogs and the dogs that play with the toddlers and are like family.

Then you look at the people who breed them to fight. It's the person, not the dog. Any dog can be viscious if trained to do so. Pitbulls are very obedient and will do what they are told. I'd hope people have more common sense than to blame this on the breed.

"Punish the Deed, Not the Breed"

but alota times an animal is an ANIMAL by nature.

How come only pitbulls have bad owners?

I have never had any dog nevermind pitbulls.

But I've known plenty of them. I don't see the point in banning a breed specifically. The reason for the stereotype is thus:

1. Pitbulls can be very strong and vicious.

2. People who want to raise ******* dogs get strong and visious dogs.

3. People who want to raise ******* dogs get those dogs as jacked and angry as possible.

4. Once the potential for violence is observed in pitbulls, it follows that every retard that wants to own a "mean dog" like [xyz movie character] will get one.

This is the same way every dumb thing got popular, except it ends up screwing over a perfectly reasonable bread with the image of a maniac.

In reality we should be peepin the ****in assholes who try to buy the DOGS.

Only pitbulls have bad owners?!?!

Don't get brainwashed by the media.. Pitbulls are just the only dogs getting publicized doing these things. Hell, My friend's poodle bit off 3 of his little sister's fingers. But poodles are so darn cute aren't they? Gimme a break

Pitbulls are often referred to as vicious because of their owners. Let's face the facts. Pitbulls are GREAT fight dogs, they're also great guard dogs, and they have a mean look about them. Many people fight the dogs, and that's what you hear about. Many people do not properly care for their dogs or handle them often, making them antisocial and allowing their natural instincts, so to speak, to come into play.

Pits have lock jaw, they lock on and do NOT let go.

Here's a list, mind you Pit Bulls are number one, but take a look at the rest of the dogs on the list.

Most Vicious Dog Breeds

10. Dalmation

9. Boxer

8. Presa Canario

7. Chow

6. Doberman

5. Alaskan Malamute

4. Husky

3. German Shepherd

2. Rottweiler

1. Pit Bull

Okay, so notice the list. Quick question - anyone here other than me had 10x more bad luck around a small dog, say a Chihuahua? I have, personally, but disregard it, they can be great dogs. Small dogs dont get looked at the same way because they're easily controlled. Larger dogs, such as a Rott, Pit, Doberman, are all big and just as fearless if not moreso than the smaller animals, yet they have the true potential to honestly hurt you, so they're 10x more feared among people.

Pit Bulls are great dogs. They are loyal dogs, and very protective dogs. I hate how people see them, respond to them, and treat them, it is in the least unjust.
