A REAL gain question

Ok, yesterday I spent the entire day at work (had nothing to do) learning how to set the gain.

Went to radioshack got a multimeter and went to it.

Using the calculation, the measured voltage on a 0db 35htz test tone should be 40. because sqrt(800x2) = 40.

So I adjusted the gain accordingly until 40V was hit with 3/4 volume on HU.

Does that mean that the subs were getting 400 each?

IDK but I think that the Alpine m850 is rated @ 14.4v but I was getting this voltage idle so that means its performing efficiently @ rated RMS w/o clipping the signal?

Now Im soon to be the proud owner of a AQ2200D. I know this pulls more power especially since I have stock electrical. (130 amp alt) will this increase in power prevent me from getting sqrt(1300x2) 51V if the amp is rated @ 14.4V but Im not getting that @ idle?

Basically, if the AQ2200D is rated @ 1300rms @ 2ohm @ 14.4V will I ever be able to achieve 51V on the multimeter at idle in the car. How can I measure voltage @ idle...been using my 9500i but that is only plugged into a 12v source so I guess its limited?

IDK how to word that but I tried.

Thanks in advance?

to set aq2200d

You can set the gain with the REMOTE GAIN CONTROL BY DOING THE

FOLLOWING.FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER

1. LEAVE THE HEADUNIT OFF

2. HOOK UP THE AMP AND SUBS TO THE AMP

3. PLUG THE REMOTE GAIN CONTROL TO THE AMP

4. MAKE SURE THE MASTER/SLAVE SWITCH IS SET TO MASTER

5. SET THE SUBSONIC FILTER TO 30, SET THE LPF TO 100

6. SET THE GAIN ON THE AMP HALF WAY UP

7. TURN THE REMOTE GAIN KNOB COUNTER CLOCKWISE TO OFF

8. TURN ON THE HEADUNIT AND SET VOLUME 2/3-3/4 UP

9. INSERT CD OR TUNE TO MUSIC, AT THIS TIME YOU WILL GET NO OUTPUT FROM

AMP BECAUSE THE REMOTE GAIN IS TURNED OFF

10.SLOWLY TURN THE REMOTE GAIN KNOB CLOCKWISE UNTIL THE CLIPPING

INDICATOR LED BEGINS TO SLOWLY BLINK ON AND OFF, IF THE CLIPPING

INDICATOR LED GLOWS STEADY TURN THE REMOTE GAIN KNOB DOWN UNTILL THE

CLIPPING INDICATOR TURNS OFF OR JUST SLOWLY BLINKS

IF THE CLIPPING INDICATOR LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON WHEN THE REMOTE KNOB IS

TURNED ALL THE WAY UP TURN THE REMOTE KNOB COUNTER CLOCKWISE TO THE OFF

POSITION AND INCREASE THE GAIN SETTING ON THE AMP TO 3/4 AND THEN REPEAT

NUMBER 10

THE REMOTE GAIN CONTROL WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO TURN THE GAIN BEYOUND THE

GAIN SETTING ON THE AMP. IT ACTUALLY IS A GAIN TURNDOWN CONTROL

WHEN YOU CHANGE THE VOLUME SETTING ON THE HEADUNIT, ADD BASS BOOST OR

CHANGE MUSIC THE POWER REQUIREMENTS TO THE AMP CHANGE AND THE AMP COULD

CLIP OR EVEN NOT PRODUCE ENOUGH POWER. All you have to do to make sure

the amp is correctly set is monitor the remote gain clipping indicator

and turn the remote gain knob up or down until the clipping indicator

light is off or just blinking now and them. If the clipping indicator

led stays on the amp is clipping and you need to turn the remote knob

down.

If you have a problem with the install STOP what you are doing and call

for help.

Thanks a lot man, that clipping indicator light sounds like a really neat feature.

How do you like your AQ and what is it powering?

hey to be honest my amp has not even come in yet. it should come in on Tuesday. it will be powering an audiopulse axis. i cant wait to try the amp. i have already set up all the wirinng in my truck. i am running 1/0 gauge power and ground wire. i have read alot about this amp and everything i have seen has been really positive. dj has been really helpful and he always replies to my emails at least within 24 hours. i mean come on a 2200 watt amp with all the goods for 389?? thats a deal:greedy:

oh and test it with a 50 hz tone from realmofexcursion.com
Mine comes tomorrow!!!!!

So use that test tone when following the directions that you have posted?

My 2 12" 2ohmDVC Type R's are going to ****ing slam at 1300rms!
