A picture for you...

and how much abuse testing have you done on that coil //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

...and how much stress can the triple joint take due to so little contact area on the honey comb former?

That topplate is ungodly thick for such a small driver. That's the way underhung goes though I guess....

And what's the intentions of the honeycomb former? Less weight? Better cooling?

Yea thats how it goes with underhung...

The honeycomb former started off as an idea for less weight overall but we decided that we may as well go thicker on the former for even better cooling/strength. While there is less surface area for heat radiation it is very open and the high velocity non-laminar air flow particularly near the 10 layer voice coil more than makes up for any radiation losses... The former itself is very strong and rigid as a plus.

We haven't done a ton of abuse to it yet, we want to make some **** before we try to break it... At this point it has only been pushed just to xmech to make sure we have as much excursion as we predicted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The glue is able to attach to the top, bottom, and sides of the hex mesh as well as directly between the cone/spider so it seems to be a pretty strong joint overall. We are our own build house though so if we run into problems it would be a fairly quick fix prior to shipping. When we do a stress test on it and if we find something does go wrong there we can always wrap the former in something that will adhere extra well, sandwich the spider between two O rings and have a little lip the cone can slide into without any real delay... It looks to be fine as it is though.

Qes = .545

Qms = 3

Vas = 45.85l

Xmax=xmech=surround hitting its limits=22mm

Fs = 54.33

Re = 3.2 ohms

Le = VERY low... 1mm thick copper on the entire pole, .5mm thick sleve on the ID of the top plate

Bl = 3.23

Sd = 140 cm^2

93.34 dB/w/m

97.33 dB/2.83v

That is where it stands...

flat BL throughout excursion.... gotta love it.

i thought they had like a 111 db efficiency or something.....

this driver would max out SPL wise around 118db at 100hz or so... and that's mostly due to power handling maxing out around 200w RMS

it IS rated for 125w RMS though... so keep that in mind

we have an 11mm one way shallow driver with a good 9mm one way of flat BL that is only 2.75" deep.... 90db/w however but overall the SQ would be similar.... little less power handling and all that... self shielded however.... Fs is around 40hz on this driver

pics of this one shortly... these are for temptation purposes only //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

and as far as Kms Curve... with a 5.75" spider it's quite possibly the most linear curve of any 6.5" speaker currently available... heck it's probably the best KMS curve for any 8" driver currently made....

For all intents and purposes there is no KMS/BL induced distortion whatsoever until you've pushed it well beyond 17mm one way

Inductance is pretty much as low as it gets ... 0.03mh or so extension should easily be into the 11-14khz range for practical purposes
